While the sky was cloudy this afternoon, I visited my friend in the village. We chatted about trivial things while sipping coffee and fried bananas on his porch. Several times I swatted mosquitoes that bit my face and wrists, so I had to ask him for mosquito repellent. Yup, there are a lot of mosquitoes in the rainy season. You are forced to share your blood with them. If only they asked nicely, it's okay. But they sucked without permission, leaving an unbearable itch.
A few moments later, the dark cloud slowly disappeared. It was time to hunt for mushrooms in his garden. Damn it, the mosquito infestation was even worse in that garden. Luckily, I was wearing a hoodie, so my neck and wrists were more protected by mosquitoes. Oh yeah, I smeared my skin with mosquito repellent, but it didn't work at all.
We combed through the rotting wood there and found some mushrooms growing.
That is a small cluster of yellow-gilled gymnopilus (Gymnopilus luteofolius).
The mushrooms are orange with a rusty magenta cap surface. The mushrooms' gills are true to their common name: yellow.
I noticed some of the mushrooms were starting to wrinkle. Some beetle species love to feed on those mushrooms. But it looks like the mushrooms will wilt before the beetles arrive.
