Fungi Friday: These fungi are blushing.

in #hive-1513273 years ago

According to Wikipedia blushing is defined as the following

Blushing is the reddening of a person's face due to psychological reasons. It is normally involuntary and triggered by emotional stress associated with passion, embarrassment, shyness, fear, anger, or romantic stimulation.

You humans always have the strangest reactions to things. Sometimes I like to sneak up behind people and start making random noises. They turn and see a buffalo with a big smile on their face. I also look at your face trying to determine what emotion I'm seeing.

I still have some problems deciphering what it means. Sometimes people literally jump and I assume I startled them? Sometimes people run but many turn and say hello. I say HI back in response. Many are surprised to hear me talk.

I wouldn't suggest sneaking up behind me, I become startled and almost always start to run. This is a built in response that I've been trying to break but it's oh so hard. The technical term might be fight or flight.

All of this is a preamble to the main show. A Blushing Rosette.

This is an interesting name and is of course not something I'm familiar with. Luckily these apps can help me out as usual in the identification of all these wonderful fungi on my adventures.

I was sure to keep my eyes open scanning around on a seek and photograph mission. Looking down on the ground I saw something poking out covered in debris. These pesky leaves love to hide everything on me but not this day.

I see you.

I started brushing away the debris little by little.

Fungi treasure for those who dig a little.

A little more to go here before the grand reveal.

You're a real looker.

There you are. Hello my name is @buffalobison.

What's shaking @buffalobison? I will accept any and all compliments while blushing. This is my nature.

I often like to introduce myself by name to new fungi. Not all are talkative and I often see them staring like zombies into their phones. Probably browsing FungiBook or something similar, little do they know we have all the fungi and mushroom related news right here. I leave them my fungicard with all my details so they can find me later.

A conversation was initiated by me and this fungi could talk. They told me their name was Rosie of the species Blushing Rosette. I let out a slight chuckle at the name and they laughed too.

I threw out the classic line "So… tell me a little about yourself."

These open ended questions are like a gateway into another world. In this case, the fungi world. The Blushing Rosette tells me they're a loner and often like to bloom after a rainfall. They leave their unique mark behind in the form of rot. I see this often in the fungi I find.

Growing on almost anything as my fungi app tells me. Branches, wood and stumps like in this case. I can't let the three words go as used to describe this particular species.

Saprobic

living in or being an environment rich in organic matter and relatively free from oxygen

source

Solitary

being, living, or going alone or without companions

source

Gregarious, in this case the referring to a plant. I think of the other meaning when hearing this word.

growing in a cluster or a colony

source

They apparently smell fragrant and foul. I didn't notice a smell at all and wouldn't tell Rosie either if it was the case 😀

I always look forward to meeting new friends in any form. Fungi, flower or human they're often incredible beings and add to our life experiences. I had a nice conversation with Rosie and asked her to sign a release form upon taking these shots, she was happy to oblige. Thanks again, I think people will derive some enjoyment from this post.

I hope everyone is having a great #FungiFriday. I am.

Rosie send me a text wishing everyone a fabulous #FungiFriday. I think we will be in contact frequently now.

Very creative !

I wonder what happens to their phones when they.. .well.... disappear.

I wonder too. I see Harold the snowman is not around anymore, you threw me for a loop for a second there

Rosie is such an adorable name for a little fungi you met while out on a stroll. I enjoyed your tale.

Thanks for the visit. I appreciate it, this was a fun walk and these fungi are very personable !PIZZA
