[ESP-ENG] Fungi Friday: Fun fungi on a rainy afternoon

in #hive-151327last year

The summer in Bilbao has been quite rainy, and not only that, but also very changeable. The people of Bilbao would tell me that this is normal all year round, it can be very sunny and suddenly turn gray and start to rain out of the blue, even if the weather hasn't given any warning. A few Fridays ago my boyfriend and I went out for a walk when the afternoon was radiant and some of those clouds that love to surprise appeared, a soft and very fine rain quickly began to fall, which they call "sirimiri" here.

We should be used to these changes in weather, but since what we had planned to do was walk and walk and not be in a closed place, we weren't too happy 😂 so my boyfriend got a bit grumpy because he thought we couldn't walk a lot more. But today, with my first participation in this community, I want to show you what improved my boyfriend's mood and also our walk:

We started having fun again, we laughed a lot because I went over a small fence to take the photos, and my postures were strange 🤣 he got very involved in the session suggesting ideas and angles 🤭 as well as showing me some functions on his phone's camera, which it was the one we used since it is better than mine.

As you can see, these mushrooms aren't particularly pretty, but they made our afternoon more beautiful 😊. Also, I actually think they do look cute, between the flowers and the raindrops!

Since I know practically nothing about the fungi kingdom, I downloaded an app called picture mushroom to try to identify this species, I uploaded my photos and the result was: "Ganoderma sessile". If you know, could you tell me if that is what it is called or if it is another species?

Anyway, thanks to these mushrooms for bringing joy to that afternoon 😁 and thanks to you for reading ✨ I hope you are having a wonderful Friday!

that mushroom is a very intriguing find. i am far from an expert but from the photos it looks like your app identified it correctly. in english it is called reishi which is a highly sought after medicinal fungus. but there are some confusing aspects here. first Ganoderma-sessile grows on wood and there is no sign of wood in your photos. second, it is primarily a north american species and if you found it in bilbao it is likely extremely rare. it may have been imported accidentally from america, which would be unfortunate because it is a parasite. third there is much confusion around different species of reishi and this species may or may not have any beneficial medicinal value. again i am no expert but it might be interesting to seek one out in Bilbao because if the identification is correct then it should be reported.

I thought the same about the missing wood when I searched for the name and saw the pictures 🤔 and thought maybe there were little branches on the grass and couldn't see them because the mushroom didn't elevate from the ground. Now, the second thing you said is really concerning, I'm gonna try to do a little research about that, maybe try to speak to someone in Bilbao that knows about it. And first of all, I'm going to look around the same place to see if they are there again. Today is raining again, maybe they will reappear 🤔 thank you for all the information you brought ✨

best of luck doing a little fun research. mushrooms are very interesting life forms. lots to learn about them but if you want to search for edible ones there are a few delicious common species that are easy to identify with certainty.

i am interested in reishi mostly as medicinal. if you learn more about your find i would like to hear about it. it would make a good post sharing on hive your experience and what you find out

That's a great idea! I'll be working on that 🧐 and let you know about the results 🍄

Gracias mami 😘
