Pycnoporus sanguineus
It is a white rot saprobic fungus, belonging to the wood fungus group, Division Basidiomycota, Class Homobasidiomycetes, Order Polyporales and Family Polyporaceae. This fungus was first discovered in 1904 in the Guana Islands part of the Virgin Islands, and can also be found in tropical and subtropical areas. Usually grows on dead hardwood stems. This mushroom is identical to the orange-red color, shaped like a fan and has a hard texture like a board so it can't be eaten.
When talking about mushrooms, it must be synonymous with poison or medicine. From some research results show Pycnoporus sanguineus itself has been used in industry and medicine. The pigment extracted from the cap (cinnabarin) is used in the textile industry as a natural dye. The polypore acid content in this fungus is believed to be used as a medicine for various diseases such as cancer, dysentery, leprosy and dermatitis.
