This has been on my mind for a while and I wasn’t sure if it was happening to just me so I thought I should share. Yesterday I asked my mom to take her umbrella and wear sweater to work because according to my weather notifications, it was going to rain crocodiles and anacondas. Guess what? The kind of sunshine we got yesterday was mind blowing. My mom came home asking if I pranked her or what.
About two weeks ago, I asked my aunt to close her shop because it was already very windy and after checking my phone’s weather forecast, it was as if there’s was going to be a tornado. After 30 minutes, everything was back to normal and my aunt gave me side eye throughout our journey home.
It started drizzling this morning and according to this same weather forecast on my phone, there was 60% chance of rain. I didn’t really tell anyone how to dress because I didn’t want to get into trouble this time too. As if I knew, the kind of rain or should I even say drizzle that we experienced today wasn’t even enough to wet a piece of paper.
So it got me thinking, is it that my device is just giving inaccurate information and if so then why is that? Because I know some very accurate weather information from certain devices that tell you it’s about to rain in the next three seconds and then right after you pull out your umbrella, it starts raining. No, this is not a Korean movie, I’m talking about something that has been happening real life.
My phone told me it was cloudy at my location, I stepped outside to check and the skies were as clear as a mirror. The sun was even out too. I have been depending on this same weather forecast for years and I just realized I haven’t been paying attention to how false it is. In that moment when I got the realization, I could recall so many moments where I took my umbrella out and it never rained or how I dressed to suit the weather and I ended up either feeling cold or very hot.
I’m writing this at 3:57 GMT and my weather notifications says it’s cloudy, cold and about to rain but here I am sweating with all this heat. It took me a while to believe in digital predictions or forecast. I don’t know why this weather thing is trying to make me stop believing. Well, maybe it’s just my phone. I’m just tired of all these lies. It makes me wonder what else my phone is reporting inaccurately. Do I really take about 1000 steps a day? Maybe my screen time is even wrong.
Let me know if the weather forecast on your phone is accurate or if you know any app that forecasts accurate weather conditions. If I continue to follow my phone’s weather forecast, I might wear rain boots one day to work on a sunny day and then will have to lie to my colleagues it’s the new fashion trend.
