When I was a kid, my back up plan was to marry my brother in case nobody wanted to marry me. Oh before you say anything, I wasn’t even the one who brought that idea, my brother did. My mom would always yell at me about how if I did not leave my game pads to learn how to cook, nobody would want to marry me. So my brother would tell me not to worry because he had my back.
Each vacation was full bliss for us because we could go on so many trips on our desktop, from one game to the other. My brother whom I admired so much because of how many Mortal Kombat cheat codes he knew(come on, anyone who knows cheat codes is cool), would wake me up very early to play games with me till nighttime.
This particular activity became a behavior. Even as at now, I don’t mind waking up very early to play games till nighttime. But when I have to go work, waking up is more than the battle that happened between Israel and the Canaanites. Bruh, it is a struggle. This is one of the reasons why I try my best not to go to my brother’s place anytime I know I have work the next day. Doing that is a suicide mission for myself. I would end up looking like a zombie at work the next day.
I used to complain that time goes 2 times faster anytime I hold a pad but I now understand that you don’t see time moving anytime you’re at peace. And that is the kind of peace video games give me. I literally forget I’m in a world when I’m behind the console. It’s like everywhere goes quiet for me. I know gamers here can relate. I could play games from morning till morning.
Any gamer here can relate to the fact that, there’s this thing with games; if you do not win, you have this strong urge to keep going till you win. If you win, you still want to win some more. I mean winning could make you take a break but then you’d want to come back as soon as possible to try and win again.
I admire people who are able to watch movies for so long. I have a friend who can watch a 2 hour movie in an hour and still tell you everything that happened in the movie. The furthest I could go with a movie is after Rambo makes his first shot. I know I’m definitely going to wake up at the closing credits with the names of the actors staring at me. (I can feel some bombastic sides eyes, right back at you all!)
I’m not a movie person and I could catch an episode or two in my free time but for video games? I’m definitely going to “make” the time to play all night long. I know it’s not a good thing and it could be detrimental to my health but I’m making progress okay? At least I now eat first before I get behind the console. See? Sweet progress.(wink)
