It’s funny how people equate being productive to being overly busy. You could spend the whole day doing something very insignificant, you could get all exhausted and overwhelmed and yet no tangible proof to show for all your “busyness”. You could scream at the top of your voice that you were busy the whole day but my darling you were never productive 😃
If there is one thing I have come to understand is that you can have all the assistance from Apps and people but still be unable to stay productive but when you decide to put in the work then the narrative changes.
Some years back just like so many people I’d wake up with a clear-cut goal for every day, feeling all pumped up and motivated for the day, deep down I knew I’d be able to accomplish my goals for that day and that I would be super productive and fulfilled but in a twinkle of an eye 24 hours runs by so fast and I have nothing tangible to celebrate for that day.
Instead of smashing all my goals for that day, I end up carrying a few undone tasks to the next day and complaining about 24 hours not being enough for me.
The more I carried over previous tasks to the next day, the more I noticed I became swamped with so much, I mean I wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary but I was under unnecessary pressure and this kept happening until I came across Eisenhower Matrix.
One of my major tricks for staying productive is using Eisenhower Matrix.
Eisenhower Matrix is also called the Prioritization Matrix and it was propounded by General Dwight David Eisenhower a one-time president of the United States. As a president, he needed to make hard decisions frequently hence his invention of the Eisenhower Matrix to help him weigh and categorize his decisions.
The Eisenhower Matrix is divided into four quadrants and is designed to help you distinguish between important tasks, non important tasks, urgent and non-urgent tasks thereby making you manage your time and be productive.
With this matrix, I am able to categorize all the tasks I need to complete instead of trying to do or finish them at a go. I can simply choose which task is important and needs to be prioritized.
This trick has helped me a lot in staying productive as I am able to choose the tasks I wish to delegate to others thereby reducing the workload and completing all my tasks.
Being intentional about your goals is the first and most powerful trick. Saying you want to be productive in your career, business, and personal life is not by mere words. You need to go out there and put in the work, you don’t expect to be productive by lazing around or procrastinating.
One thing I try to do to stay productive is by being intentional, reminding myself about all I need to achieve, keeps me on my toes.
Once I sit idle, I feel like there's something I should be doing, and then the moment I remember how much of a successful person I want to be the kind of energy surge I feel is next to none, it envelopes me.
Reminders on my phone play a huge part in making me stay productive. The sound of the notification reminds me of the things I need to do or how much time I am supposed to spend on a particular task.
As I pointed out earlier, having the best tools or Apps to help you stay productive would prove abortive if you don't actually decide to do the work as you've planned to.
