Now that I think about it, This year would make it 15 years since I first came into the online space. I have a younger sibling who will be turning 15 this year, and it seems like it was only yesterday I was given a phone to look after my pregnant mum and little sister. That was the year I started taking responsibility as a young teenager and started looking out for my family because my dad wasn't around. I just entered Senior Secondary school, but was battling school and home balance. But that story is for another day. Looking back now it feels so unreal how long it had been since I held that blackberry bold two in my hand and entered the Internet with it, creating my first Facebook account and opening my 2go account too.
Although my first phone was an LG phone, I didn't really use the Internet with it as I majorly focused on playing games and making phone calls. But entering senior secondary school with all my friends talking about Facebook and 2go, it was only natural that anyone who wanted to feel relevant would get it. The kind of people around me then were years older than me, and they were either using a blackberry or Samsung touchscreen. It was like using the latest iPhone or Samsung ultra in 2025. Although the Black berry I was using belonged to my dad who got a new one and gave me his old phone, it was still a big deal using a blackberry phone.
Seeing the Internet as a whole new world where I could make research and feed my curiosity, I would save my lunch money for airtime to get data. As a teenager then I was still moving with a lot of bad boys, so when I started taking my phone to school, my friends introduced me to a lot of illicit groups on 2go as well as pornography which quickly became my muse as I had a lot of curiosity to feel in. Finally the things I wasn't allowed to watch I could now access them, the things I only heard of I could also watch them. It's been 15 years now and I'm happy I'm no longer that naive little teenager who found the phone as a tool for fun. You can say life has happened to me within these years and it has taught me a lot about managing resources.
