Just two days ago, my friend and I talked for almost an hour about AI and how we worry that it will take over a lot of jobs done by human whether professionally or not. She told me of one time her mother was treated at a hospital but by a particular machine and I was actually surprised to hear that because I had said AI won't get there.
Well, it's getting real and if we don't take caution now, AI is going to take more jobs than we really want it to take. The invasion of AI has been an interesting one actually, it's fascinating how fast things can be done now with the use of it. A lot of jobs are now easier to get done thanks to the help of AI and the smart use of it by humans.
Still, it's of importance we point out jobs AI should and should not take over from humans. Many need their livelihood to go on and they only have that to rely on, I can't imagine how devastating it would be for many if AI should take over just any kind of job it is able to. There should be limit to jobs AI should take from us, humans.
It's fine for AI to take over tasks that are repetitive as humans could break down easily doing one kind of activities repetitively and AI won't. One of those repetitive tasks is keeping records of sales, activities or information automatically. AI is doing great in language translation, it's easier using it than using humans.
There is also 24/7 customer service chatbots AI should take over but it still needs to be set to take serious issues to humans contact for better resolve. We would need AI to help in Predicting maintenance for equipments or tools and other machines being used on a regular. Doing the treatment itself is what AI shouldn't do but giving Medical diagnosis will make doctor's job easy.
Of course, there are more jobs AI can take over that I haven't mentioned but one thing I want to be clear about is that, AI should never take jobs that require human empathy so if we could figure out all those jobs, we know well which jobs should be taken and which shouldn't. I'll share some of those jobs that should never be taken.
I can't imagine the Human resources department in every workplace environment being over taken by AI, where would be the human touch to keep employers or workers in good check and help them work beteer? Same goes for Healthcare professionals, AI could only diagnose and recommend treatments but the words of "you'll be fine" being said by a doctor goes a long way.
I don't think AI should take over Teaching and education as I've experienced what it means to learn from both, there is always this empathy touch human teachers gives to their work especially when they are passionate about their jobs. Skilled trades like electricians, plumbers or carpenters should remain in the skilled hands of humans, detecting the issues can be done by AI.
There are more jobs out there that AI should never be made to take over but I'll stop with these ones I've shared and I hope in time to come, people will not lose their jobs to AI but instead, use AI to improve their work efficiency and meet deadlines faster. This is my response to the Inleo January prompts Day 8 with topic focus "What jobs should AI take and which should it not?" you're invited to participate too.
