Origin Story of a Little Tech Whiz

in #hive-1516622 months ago

It all started with the DVD player. It had always been there, as far as I could tell, but all I ever knew it could do was show my favourite cartoon shows. Mom always set it up for us, but she had to leave us home by ourselves for a bit, and that's how it all started—Jay's enthusiasm for technology.

My brother and I loved cartoons so much, and our DVDs were all we had of them. And my mom taught me how to use it. It was a very fascinating moment for me. Little did she know there was a little yet strong spark that lit the path that led me to where I am now, as well as where I am headed.

She had this really small, red laptop and a modem for internet connection. In order to provide us with something to pass time with, she looked up games that we could play on the internet. She'd set the games up for us normally, but she eventually had to show us how to do it ourselves. That access to the internet was the key.

Not only could I search "Power Rangers" to play, but I often found other things that piqued my interest. The entire concept of the internet and information at my fingertips was mind-blowing. I treasured that little, red laptop so much. It was an Acer laptop, I think.

My mom was pretty involved with computers and accessories. She even ran a small cafe or something and provided printing services. And my dad sold cameras back then. All of these gadgets were around me, and that little spark turned into flames, especially when my parents left us by ourselves at home.

I was a very curious and inquisitive boy growing up. I always wanted to discover and learn why certain gadgets worked the way they did. And when they became faulty, I wanted to be able to fix them. Although my success rate wasn't great, I was relentless with my adventures to discover.

Thankfully for me, I got a smart phone at a really early age. It was a flip phone by Zoom Mobile. Small and sturdy, but I loved it most for how it snapped when we closed it. What made it a gem for me was the mobile games it had. Okay. My brother and I actually shared that phone.

The first thing I always did when there was a new gadget around was to explore the deep secrets of the phone. I hardly ever read manuals, and I think it was because I preferred to discover than to be told. I continued that way, so much so that I became the little tech genius that people would consult for their tech misadventures.

Of course, I never really always knew the answer to every problem, but I loved the problems so much as they were avenues to learn again. They were challenges that I wholeheartedly took so I could unleash my inner genius.

Fast forward to many years now, I have hardly changed much. I mean, I am not that adventurous for certain things any more as I have gotten older, but my life is way simpler in the tech world as I had a really early and engaging start.

There are some problems I'd see in mobile phones now—Androids, though—and I would instantly know the (potential) solutions to them. I had spent so much time exploring the insides of Android phones that some things became second nature to me.

It's been different things for me all these years, but I like to think that it started with the DVD and that little red laptop with its Starcomms modem. I ignited my passion and got me hooked on tech for life.

Such a nice adventure.
I don't have any bro in tech, but I have an electrician. His love for magnets and fancy lights were what sparked his interest, and now he's the odugwu of his department.

It's beautiful when you discover your path early in life, growing won't be too difficult.
Well done 👍

You don't say. He's the odogwu? Very nice. I love his origin story. I wonder when we'll see him on Hive someday.

Most of the things start with the little thing. I started to explore the internet for the curiosity of knowing how to download from the internet and now I know so many things that It was hard to imagine at that time. As you said, it was like a spark for me and now it converted into fire.
Do you use the Redmi Note 10 Pro? I am a user of Redmi Note 10.

You know, it's surprising how there are some people who are unable to search the interet well. I learned that as a kid, and it helps even till now.

And yes, I use the REdmi Note 10 Pro. Did you just get the Note 10?

Good morning bro. Please I need your help regarding my inleo account. I have not been able to log in to my account since yesterday. I even changed my keys to a new one and I still couldn't log in. Please help me out

Okay thanks so much bro 🙏

Your parents are real gees. I see you lived the rich lifestyle and still are.

I remember my dad also had this huge Internet cafe that was bringing us loads of money, but there was a flood one day and everything got washed away. Sad.

The real gees indeed.

I see you lived the rich lifestyle and still are.

Nhaji, the new year is approaching...

So sad that you guys lost that bustling internet cafe. Thankfully, you all are in a good place now.

Hehe, allow me.😂

I guess.

Man we really are lucky as kid to experience that era of cartoon when it was useful and developed interests from early age that we now have

Same story but different cartoons, honestly I never got to watch "power rangers" i heard about it recently like last year, lol.

We had limited channels, anyway I think someday I'll watch that.

Btw, just saw your book collection in that photo.. Atomic habit is too good, you read self improv books or money/finance related too?

Also a redmi user... Note 12, knowing solution of android prob is brilliant.

I never got to watch "power rangers" i heard about it recently like last year, lol.

You should have seen the look on my face, man. I was shocked you recently heard about it for the first time, but I understand...

Atomic habit is too good, you read self improv books or money/finance related too?

Atomic Habits is great, man. I am going to revisit is soon. I mostly read self-help and finance books, yes. I'm leaning towards fiction these days, though, but self-help takes the most attention.

I didn't even think we're this many that use Redmi. I guess the brand is doing something right, then. I most like Redmi for how much quality they pack into affordable phones.

It's clear where you got all your technological motivations from and honestly, this prompt brought back beautiful memories.

My very first phone call to another country left me with so many questions without answers and even when the answers were coming, I understood nothing.

I wondered how many of these things were possible and here we are today enjoying more innovations than we did back then.

Your first international call experience had me laughing. 😁 I can imagine the feeling.

I see you made your entry, man. Now I'm even more curious about your origin story.

My younger brother has almost the same origin story as yours only he began his tech story by dismantling my dad's stereo set 😁😁.

Dad's stero set was the sacrificial lamb. I believe that was its calling. Lol.

Lol, I believe so too 😂
