Living off the grid.//.how I live when unplugged

in #hive-151662last month

Since the beginning of this year, I have been living nearly unplugged. After an acquiescent relocation, one of the first things I was told was, “We don't have constant electricity here, we have light 1-2 times per week if we are lucky. And it nearly lasts for an hour.” I started to imagine my life with my phone constantly dead. Since my phone is the only lifeline to the digital world, the thought of going without it most of the time felt unsettling. I was used to having almost constant electricity where I used to live and even my hostel while was in uni, so I never bothered to get a power bank.

The first few weeks were hell. I had to drop my phone every now and then to charge. So I spent at least 50% of my day without my phone. As a stranger in a new place with nobody to relate with, it felt isolating. I didn't have much to keep me busy, but then, I brought some books with me, so I read most time, slept the afternoons away, and sang (I Have a Terrible Voice btw) to kill my boredom.

After a month, I went home and came back fully prepared, well at least. I persuaded my bro to give me his power bank and his mini rechargeable fan. I brought my sewing machine with the help of my dad and took a few novels from my sis, as well as my drawing books. With this survival kit, I was ready to face life without a phone.

So when my phone is dead, I have tons of things to do. One of my favourite things is sewing, and I'm glad I'm able to get a few customers in the area.I also love to read whenever I can. Reading is relaxing, entertaining, and even keeps the mind sharp. sometimes I found myself rereading my books, or reading my Bible haha

Now that I am used to the environment and people around, occasionally I take an evening stroll enjoying nature and the environment or sit outside and talk with a few neighbours. Another thing I do is to sing off-key. Sometimes I just sit in silence brainstorming ideas, reminiscing and giving thanks.

Sleeping is also my go-to. Sometimes I don't even plan for it. When I'm not sleeping or sewing, I also love experimenting with new recipes or visiting friends.

Lastly, I when other things fail, I turn to drawing, my first love. Whether Plugged or unplugged, art is the favourite thing I love to do. Give me art supplies and food, I will survive alone in a remote countryside house without internet and a phone (well, maybe).

In conclusion, living for a long time unplugged won't be a very big problem except for the fact that I need my phone for communication and daily transactions as a business owner and social being.

See the way you admitted your off key singing habit 😅.

With all these, you don't have a problem. I remember I used to draw very well then but when I got into the digital world, phone bought me away and I've tried returning many times but it didn't just work😅

Lol, try harder.

Drawing is my true love, you should try drawing again

Unplugged means plugged to life.
What country are you ?

It sure is! Plugged to reality and nature 😄

Nigeria, why did you ask?
What about you?

I’m in Cuba 🇨🇺
I was wondering due to the black outs ..

Most places in Nigeria has electricity but this part of Nigeria is still very much underdeveloped

Cuba? Thats very far

We have blackouts here too. In fact, today there’s a huge one. Bigger one that I’ve experienced in normal conditions.
Well, Cuba is in America and Nigeria is in Africa. We are the same distance from each other 😂

I guess its happens everywhere

Thats a very long distance 🙂

Yes, the whole planet 🌎 🔁 🌍

Yh, thanks for your comment and time, really appreciate it

I think you've completely figured out life when you have to be unplugged. lol 😂

You know just the things to keep you occupied. You have them set and ready to go. I aspire to be like you 😅🙌

I am sorry you felt isolated after moving to your new area. It's good to hear you have now found your footing.

I'm actually leaving this ending, I'm going back to my dad's house.

I relocated because of Nysc ( I don't know if you what it means)

I had to look for a way to adapt 🥲

Oh oh. Nicee.

I do know what NYSC means naw 😅. I'm Nigerian too.

I had to look for a way to adapt 🥲

Since you were going to be there for a year, you definitely had to. And you did well 👍

You really did a good job with the drawing. Most times when we are unplugged that is when we discover our hidden talents like you singing😂

Singing is my hidden talent ☺️😂

You have really cool things on your list anytime you are away from your devices. And it looks like they are really able to get you occupied enough to shift your attention. So it makes sense how you won’t really have a problem being unplugged for a long time. We appreciate your contribution.

Thank you

Every time I read that in Nigeria they spend days and even weeks without electricity I feel a fear that in Venezuela the same thing could happen, I still can't get used to having my electricity cut off between 5 and 10 hours a day, which puts me in a difficult situation, I don't know whether to complain or to be grateful.

I want to learn sewing, and you draw very well, keep going with this art, you have talent. @rayoo

Thank you ma’am
I guess we have gotten used to it , we don’t have a
choice.
And you should learn sewing, it really fun and lucrative.
