I cherish relationships a lot. I have few friends and if there is one thing I do so well is show my love language. I have grown to realize that my love language is giving gifts. I am a big fan of birthdays and celebrations. Whenever I have a close friend or family member celebrating an event or something, I feel that I am more excited than them. So I storm up with my love language of giving gifts.
I am someone who is never confused about what to get a person. I spend a little time with you and I am always certain I could tell what you like, especially if I care about you. Honestly, giving gifts to people makes me feel good. I once had a question “Do you give because you want to be given?” Well, the answer has always been “NO” I give because I love to, it gives me a good feeling and I love it when I see smiles on people's faces. The smile of “Oh you thought about me, thank you.”
A gift is something that should come from the heart, that’s why before I get someone a gift, I have to look out for what he or she likes, so I do not mess it up. Most people do not like gifts cause they feel they will be indebted to you, but I am glad I meet people who have realized that my love language is giving gifts and they are always excited when they receive these gifts.
I have a long-distance friend that I love so much, but then we are so far from ourselves. He lives in a different country from me. Getting to know him I could tell that my Mr. Blount loves to have his coffee. I sometimes have online sessions with him, where we get to talk about lots of things and also he teaches me several things. But then before every class, he would always say, “Let me get my Coffee Ready”.
So he had his birthday and as a person who has little or no idea about how to get him a gift since he is far away from me. I had to look for a means and It didn’t take me long to realize that Mr. Blount always loves his coffee so I did a little thing of sending him something small to get a cup of coffee in his country. I know he never expected it. For someone comfortable, I love that he has an attitude of appreciating the little things in life.
I was excited when he saw my little money for a cup of coffee, and he was so thankful. I am sure Mr. Blount could afford any cup of coffee of his choice but then he was so happy about what I sent and was grateful. Honestly, that made my day. It was his birthday but then I think I was the happiest cause I could do something good for someone who loves his coffee so much. No matter how little my gift was to him, he appreciated it so well because, to him, it’s the thought that matters.
Guess what? I got pictures from Mr. Blount when he got his coffee and then he made sure to add a red velvet cake which is my favorite kind of cake. He had two cups of coffee, he took the first one outside the coffee shop and when the weather got cold, he had another cup of coffee inside the coffee shop.
I will always tell myself that when it comes to gifting my favorite people, distance isn’t a barrier.
