Grandpa's Coffee
The December season announces a long vacation at my grandfather's farm, it's been several years since I last visited those sweet old men who only talk to me through phone calls, but how I miss their hugs and affection, I remember well when I was little and played in the large coffee plantations while my grandfather was busy with his work in the fields.
I know my life is very different now, the world of social media and the internet has filled everything almost completely ending my time, but don't get me wrong, this 20-year-old boy is super happy for what he has achieved in life becoming a recognized world-class advertising model, of course making videos from a very young age influenced a lot in that fame, but for now I just want to take a break and forget about the internet for a few days which is why I chose my grandfather's farm as the perfect place to do it.
After a long road trip I finally arrived at the house where my two dear old men live, there my grandmother was the first to greet me and then my grandfather with his typical serious character of bitter face and scowl gave me a little smile while he squeezed my hand and saw with some disapproval the earring hanging in my ear and the strange color of my hair, but well, you know, these are things of today's world that your generation does not understand.
That same night we had a big family reunion dinner, where my grandmother took the opportunity to tell me how the coffee plantations had declined due to the competition of imported coffee, something that put them in a lot of trouble to pay the loan they had pending with the bank, for which they had bet all their harvest of the last season that they failed to place in the market, this news surprised me a lot and fell like a bucket of cold water directly on my head.
Worry was lodged in my heart since those sad words touched my brain, so as soon as dawn broke I asked my grandfather to take me to the warehouse where the coffee was stored to see how I could help him, however he just stared at me as always with his pessimistic attitude, But before saying a single word I noticed that in his desperation he was willing to accept any help, even from things he did not believe in, such as television advertising or the internet which I represented in flesh and blood, so still in disbelief he took me to the warehouse where the entire harvest was piled up in 20 kilogram coffee sacks.
This variety of coffee is very exotic and had great prominence among consumers for its characteristic flavor and aroma, but as it had been stored for more than a year it had lost its fundamental characteristics, I took a small handful of beans in my more and I realized that they had lost the color becoming almost white, the aroma was not something impressive as I remembered, so I would have to figure out how to take advantage of this disaster.
It was then that I realized that my brain was not so bold as to quickly find a solution to this problem, but one of the good things about being an influencer is having many virtual friends, so I recorded a video showing what was happening and asked my audience for help.
In a few minutes a real avalanche of comments began to arrive from all over the world, with unique ideas such as using it to make ice cream, to some somewhat strange, but simple, like selling it in portions to perfumeries, as an aroma neutralizer, but it was much more than that the interactions on the video unleashed a whole digital marketing campaign that overwhelmed the internet search engines with people writing their opinions about what was happening, so much so that it remained a worldwide trend for two days the words "grandpa's coffee".
Organic movements arose spontaneously in defense of artisan grown coffee demanding regulations to imported transgenic coffee, I still don't know how the president of the bank that gave the credit to my grandfather got in trouble during an interview when they accused him of usurious for wanting to take the farm from my grandfather, which forced him to extend him in the live broadcast a grace period for the payment of the debt free of interest.
But in spite of the achievements of this improvised publicity campaign, we still had the main problem, we had not managed to sell the coffee. It was then when I received a message that an instant coffee company would buy all the production of my grandfather's organic coffee for the next 3 years, since they especially needed coffee with those characteristics for a process called vaporization, plus of course I would also have a secure job as the image of the brand giving a happy outcome to this calamity thanks to advertising on social networks.
