Twenty kilometers north of Barcelona in Spain, there is a city called Sabadell. A city that has been under the control of Mayor Leandro Ramirez who became a dictator ten years ago. According to people's rumors, coffee production and farming were banned with no justifiable reasons. People of Sabadell earn a living from coffee production and it was all taken away from them by Leandro. But rumor has it that Mayor Leandro produces coffee secretly from seized coffee farmlands from the people of Sabadell and sells the produce to enrich himself. How true is it? No one knows. All these rumors didn't stop Carlos from moving there to have a fresh start in life.

Carlos González, a former detective, a police officer, a man whose wife and kids were tortured and killed in front of him by a drug lord. Even though Carlos took the law into his hands and avenged his family, he still felt empty inside. It wasn't enough, he was only holding to his sanity on a single thread and if he didn't move away he might lose himself. Today he was a few minutes away from reaching the city and he couldn't shake off the feeling that had attracted him to Sabadell in the first place. 'Here goes nothing' he muttered to himself.

Carlos was close to the border of the city and he thought, since he had his secret stash of coffee, he wouldn't have a problem living in Sabadell. Getting close to the city border checkpoint, the policemen told him to step out of his vehicle so that they could initiate a thorough search. As they searched his vehicle, Carlos' coffee stash was found and confiscated. Carlos pleaded and struggled with them not to take coffee for it was the one thing that kept him awake all night from his nightmares. Carlos lost the battle and accepted his fate then he drove into the city.

Six months later

The sun was beginning to set, Carlos was sleeping, and his eyes kept moving erratically under his eyelids which meant he was dreaming. Grunting, he struggled to wake up from nightmares, and then at last he woke up. Breathing heavily, he got up from his bed frustrated and he took his phone only to see that he had only slept for an hour. For the past six months that he has been in Sabadell, it has been hard for him to move on with life because everyday frustrates him with how the people of Sabadell live under the brute rule of Mayor Leandro, but the Sanchez family made it all easy for him in the city.

The Sanchez family are the richest in the city with multiple farmlands for farming coffee but now they are barely surviving as all their lands have been forcefully taken by Mayor Leandro. Still the Sanchez family grows coffee secretly for family use only and being that Carlos has been considered a close family friend, he gets to taste coffee once every week. Getting ready to go to the Sanchez compound for his secret coffee, Carlos decided he was going to demand an answer to a question he had been asking since he got to know the Sanchez family.

Carlos' body boomed to life as he took a sip of coffee from his mug. Closing his eyes to savor the flavor that greeted his taste buds, he sighed. Relieve washed all over him in full bursts.

"Do you feel better now?" Anthonio asked.

"Yes I do, we can all feel this way every day if only you would say yes to my question."

Antonio sighed, "How sure are you that you have solid evidence to bring down Mayor Leandro? I can't afford to risk the safety of my family or is there something you are not telling me, huh?"

"All I need is your trust and I promise I will let you down, Antonio. The people of the city trust you. Speak to them and I will help them to the right path. I can't continue to live like this" Carlos said.

"Okay, but on one condition, no people of Sabadell will die in the process. Deal?"

"Deal"

"Tomorrow, our revolution starts, I will send men who have volunteered themselves for this cause. They want their land back, so give it back to them."

With that Carlos finished his coffee and went back home to prepare for what is about to come, to prepare all the evidence he had gathered on Mayor Leandro through all the sound recording bugs he had planted in his castle four months ago while working as a janitor and all the hard proof of product sales by all his men.

Carlos was outside at dawn the next morning waiting for the revolution crew. Not long, a truck with seven men in it, packed in front of his house, they were all armed with rifles. Carlos was impressed and he made a solemn promise to himself not to let these people down. Handing over the evidence to them and telling what part they would play, they all departed to see to their tasks. Together as they fought Leandro's men, they cripple his operation and he was exposed to the world. In handcuffs, Leandro and his men were arrested and taken away to face the law.

"You did it, " Antonio said coming to stand close to Carlos as they both watched Leandro and his men being taken away.

"Justice was served, " Carlos said.

Yes, it was indeed served. Thank you for your presence here. I appreciate 😊!CTP

Interesting story! The mistake the Sabadell police made was to seize Carlos' coffee at the border. Don't joke with a hungry or coffee-thirsty man! 😂 Good thing he worked with Antonio and others to bring down Mayor Leandro.

Nicely done. Good luck in the contest. 😊

Well written and thanks for posting.

I will admit that I had a small issue with it. Part of good fiction is the suspension of disbelief. Banning coffee is a good premise but in Spain? Seemed a little odd. Banned by a mayor? Mayor don't really have that kind of power. Profiting off of the misery of others is totally believable but in secret? My mind is wondering how someone could hire enough labor to work the fields without the town knowing what is going on.

I'm not trying to be mean and I'm sorry it if comes across that way. However, I think I would have enjoyed the story more if my mind would let me believe a mayor had that kind of power and that such a large operation could be kept secret.

Otherwise, great story and writing.

Look forward to seeing more in the future :)
