In my city different restaurants have opened with somewhat unconventional themes, something called Come to the unknown has become very popular, a concept that is interesting, since you arrive at a restaurant where everything is in another language, whether Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Russian or German.
And when they give you the menu, you understand absolutely nothing, the idea is to motivate people to try the diversity of foreign dishes and maybe go through some embarrassment since you do not know what they will bring you, plus the waiters and staff do not speak Spanish so it is something totally exciting, a friend of us went into an Irish restaurant and as the entire menu was in Gaelic he did not understand what he was asking for so they brought him Haggis, which was an unforgettable experience haha.
But this idea as it has become very popular, is also expanding to other sectors such as drinks and cafes, the latter seemed to me something incredible as they had installed cafes where the staff who attended you were from India, China, Vietnam, Malaysia or Arabia. And all the menus were in their respective languages.
So my wife and I decided to visit a Chinese coffee shop, where in addition to incredible coffees they served teas and other drinks. The place was very nice, all the decoration evoked the Asian culture at its best, there were dragons everywhere, although the only thing I didn't like was that you had to leave your shoes at the entrance, so everyone would see my socks with holes in them.
My wife and I sat at a small table, and they brought us the menu, it was entirely in Mandarin Chinese and we didn't understand a single word of what was there, so we tried to translate it with Google Lens, but since the print quality was bad, it didn't translate accurately.
At that moment a waiter arrived speaking to us in Mandarin Chinese, I thought he was insulting me, but by his gestures I think he was asking me to tell him what my drink order was. My wife and I were nervous because we didn't know what to order, so in English we asked him for about 5 minutes to know what exactly to order, the waiter I think he understood us and left.
My wife asked me how we were going to order a latte and chocolate if we didn't understand anything and they didn't understand us. I was still trying to translate with Google Lens, but at that moment we saw that, at the bar of the coffee shop, there was a blonde woman who was a tiktoker and who ordered everything in Chinese since she was perfectly fluent in it and they brought her exactly what she wanted.
My wife told me to approach her and ask her how to order a coffee with milk and chocolate, but when I got there I realized that this blonde woman did not speak Spanish either, she was a Russian woman who knew Chinese, so I used my secret weapon, the Google translator to ask her in Russian or Chinese what we could order without getting something we did not like.
I put this in the translator:
Excuse me young lady, my wife and I are trying to order something to drink, we want something new, but we don't know what to order, could you help us by telling us what we could order please?.
But as the translator from Spanish to Russian or Chinese is not quite accurate this is what the blonde woman heard:
Извините меня, молодая и красивая леди, мы с женой ссоримся, и я хочу чего-то нового, но не знаю, куда пойти, могу ли я быть с вами и выпить вместе, пожалуйста?
对不起,年轻而美丽的女士,我的妻子和我正在吵架,我想要一些新的东西,但我不知道该去哪里,我可以和你在一起,一起喝酒吗?
Which in Spanish said:
Excuse me young and beautiful lady, my wife and I are fighting and I want something new, but I don't know where to go, can I stay with you and have a drink together?.
Immediately, this blonde woman started hitting on me because she thought I was flirting with her, I didn't know how to handle the situation and since I didn't want to be rude, I just walked away, but this woman kept hitting on me and wanting to win me over.
My wife who didn't understand asked me what the heck was going on, I didn't understand either, I told her just write this in the translator. Excuse me young lady, my wife and I are trying to order something to drink, we want something new, but we don't know what to order, could you help us by telling us what we could order please? and she after hearing the translation started to insinuate herself to me.
My wife, who is a very wise and wonderful woman, put what was translated, but from Russian to Spanish and saw what I was proposing, so we laughed for a long time, and apologized to the blonde woman, that it was all a confusion with the translator.
At the end they gave us a cup of black tea with mint that was very good, and that was a nice experience as a couple. And from this I got a moral, never use internet translators to ask questions to unknown women hahaha.
