In the year 2100 a world war occurred and famine widespread. As a result, in the year 2123, coffee was rare and a really expensive item sold on the black market. Coffee was as precious as gold.
Hazel was a 23-year-old wanderer. She wandered around in old abandoned buildings. Most buildings were desolate and the general population decreased to a greet degree. Those who survived always looked for food and fought for survival.
Hazel was looking for something to eat and also to sell in the black market to make ends meet. She never tasted coffee in her life, but heard it is a delicious beverage. She read about how people used to drink it in cafés a hundred years ago before the world war.
One day, as Hazel looked around in an abandoned building, she found a big stash of coffee worth about $100,000. She was shocked, this meant that she would be well off for the rest of her life, and she did not have to worry about buying food or other necessities. She was free of all financial worries. She took the stash and brought it to her little cottage in the woods. No one saw her, as it was frequent to be seen by thieves.
When Hazel put the heavy stash of coffee beans on the floor, she was excited to taste it to see if the stories about coffee tasting incredible are true. However, Hazel hesitated to do that, because she wondered if the taste is so good that she prevents herself from selling it and get addicted to it and consumes all of it. This horrific scenario troubled her mind since she knew that people from the past got addicted to coffee really easy and to her knowledge quitting consuming coffee was really difficult. So, she took an oath to never taste the coffee and sell it to survive on it.
She quickly took a bit from the stash and went to sell it in the black market. With the money she got from selling the coffee beans, she bought some supplies and clothes she needed, and she still had a lot of money left.
Years passed and Hazel became an old woman, still living in her little cottage inside the woods and relying on the coffee stash for survival. Now, there was not so much left of the coffee stash, and soon it would finish, and she had to start wandering around old buildings again to find precious items. It was difficult now, since she was old and had joint pain and couldn't walk miles for hours.
Hazel decided that it's time to go out again and find something else. Days passed, but she did not find anything, she was starving, and she did not want to sell that last bit of coffee beans which was left. She had plans for it. She wanted to break her oath and taste the coffee.
As she was preparing her first and last cup of coffee, some thieves invaded her home and the cup fell from her hands and the coffee spilled on the floor. The thieves did not find many precious items to steal and making hazel panic, they left her house almost empty-handed because Hazel did not have any money she spent all of her money on food and other necessities.
After that incident, Hazel regretted not tasting coffee when she was young. And she never found another stash of coffee in old abandoned buildings.
