A Happy Sad Anniversary

We weren't the best family in the neighborhood but we were perfect for ourselves, Dad was the best manager the company ever had and mum was an international cook who the public loved. My siblings and I were obedient enough, so I think though because we weren't the type that would allow dad or mum to get us to do whatever.

So I guess my family was going well and fine like that because we were comfortable enough and living in peace with our troublesome neighborhood. Our most memorable event is our most celebrated family anniversary which we did every year. It's a day we celebrated to mark "Mum being selected as the nest international cook and Dad as the top manager of the most richest company in the country". On that day, my family became a star in the country and we cherished that day so much that we made sure to mark it with special celebration.

We were a happy family celebrating that special day until last year's anniversary. As usual, Dad was given a week off for his celebration and mum got off her busy schedule to be at home for the preparation. My siblings and I were on holidays so we were very much available for the preparation.

The preparation went on smoothly as we happily prepared the small event room with beautiful decorations and colors (Mum's idea always). Dad also went out to the mall to get new stuffs for the house including his favorite package (BBQ). The preparation was all ready and we started receiving the few guests we normally invite to the anniversary every year. Dad would always repeat to them, "This is just a little celebration for my life changing achievement" and the invitees would smile at him and congratulate him.

My younger sister whispered to me that we had a new guest among the invitees but I didn't think much about it since dad was full of surprises, maybe he had invited a special guest for a surprise activity. The anniversary celebration started and it was going all fun and full of merry. Dad was so happy that he got himself drunk but too drunk because he knew he was in front of us but we kinda knew when he wasn't fully himself.

Just as people started leaving for their houses, dad went into the room to get something I can't remember and we tried taking his place by bidding his invitees goodbye while mum was busy cleaning up the messy place.

Dad was taking forever to come out of his room so my younger sister ran in to go be with him like she always does. A little girl's scream was the next sound we heard, my younger sister screamed with her tiny voice. We all ran into the room and found our dad lying on the floor dead. My younger sister couldn't say what she saw out of shock, we all knelt down close to dad crying our eyes out with no one to console any of us.

Dad died on our most favorite day, it was later found out that his secret rival at the company came to the anniversary celebration and killed our dad out of envy and wickedness. He was caught later on to face justice but our lives never remained the same after that incident.

The anniversary became an anniversary we all wanted to forget but couldn't because dad's memories kept flowing in whenever the day comes, a happy anniversary day became our worse anniversary ever.

Yeah, thanks for stopping by 😊

Very sad..reminds me back in 2018 when I lost my mum.

Oh sorry about that, guess I made you too sad with my story

Oh wow 😕.
This started out so positive and ended so tragic.
I felt the emotions as I read through each line.

I wish you the very best in the contest @merit.ahama

Yeah, even I felt it after writing... I normally don't like sad endings but I just wrote as the spirit led 😒

I love the first-person narrative that you use. It feels so personal and so real... I am always surprised when I discover it is fiction. Although in this case because I know a little more about your family dynamics now from following your blog, I picked up earlier that this one was fiction. Very well written @merit.ahama !PIZZA !ALIVE

Aww I'm glad you know me well and even through my blog, I appreciate Sam 😊

What a twist to the story. I was thinking this story would have a happy ending but seriously, why do people have to be so wicked? Why do they have to go kill him just because of a rivalry?

This was beautifully written. I love your writing skills.. Keep it up

@dreemport

Well written such a twist from the positivity and celebration to sadness and mourning

Thanks 😊

That's super sad!

Yeah, too sad
