😊 Among the various coffee shop raising in the big city, somewhere we want to find the peace, the small corner in our mind to see the world outside, to look at the beauty unworldly of the old.
😁 By going to the small alley in the district 3 to meet up one of my university friend, she has recommended me the oldest café shop that I should drop by and enjoy a cup of coffee made from the fabric racket. That is how I have the connection with this special place. Furthermore, I would love to introduce all of you about this shop, it is not only affordable price and special coffee flavor but also is attracted by the Saigoneers in the 80s. If you are in Ho Chi Minh city or intend to visit here one day, this place can be in your bucket list ^^.
🙃 Located in the bustling area, Cheo Leo café was established in the early 1930s by the man who has a great artistic temperament. He used the fibric racket to filtrate rather than the normal filter. This method comes from the old Chinese people and nowadays it is buried in oblivion step by step. Not so many people use this method to make a cup of cofee, they would rather do it as the best convenient way to save their time.
Some indeed steps to prepare for a cup of racket coffee!
😚 Water is one of the important factors to rise the odour of coffee grinder. The owner has to contain the tap-water in the specific container during 3 days in order to evaporate the antiseptic used for treatment process.
Instead of using the hot water from the pot, the owner built a furnace to boil the water. This furnace has some unique materials to keep the heat.
😊 Before making coffee, the owner used the white wipes to clean all the stuffs to make sure the hygienic quanlity.
😋 The coffee liquid would be filtered 2 times, so the final coffee will have its characteristic odour. From that, the only step is needed to do is adding the condensed milk into the coffee, as the result, the milk coffee is already for the customers ^^.
Cheo Leo café is still remain the style as it was, nothing changing from the wall, table, chair, to the ancient features. The main customers visit Cheo Leo is from the youngster who love enjoy the ancient vibe of Sai Gon to the mature man and woman who are under 50 years old. This place is the gathering place for them in the early morning and in the afternoon.
By ordering a black coffee, they play chess, discuss about the everyday occurrence, talk crap as usual. Somehow this simple thing is their joys for the rest of the day when they are older.
You will find out this café does not have any air conditioner, however, the café is still cool.
Do not miss it out whenever you get in Ho Chi Minh city. In here save all the rest of typical scenes of 1980s. Live in the past somehow is the great experience for our generation!
