Sweet Revenge
Bernice didn't like parties, except when they were organized by Bethany; her best friend. Now she was more of a party girl, she liked to socialize and be in places with lots of people and music, Bernice was surprised how much her friend had changed.
Just a year ago, Bethany was the new girl in school and she didn't look like a popular girl. Many people humiliated her, teased her about her braces, huge glasses and greasy hair. The first few months were hell for her, until Bernice took her in as a friend and helped her change.
Now she was different, she dyed her hair blonde and wore modern braids. She wore fashionable and very provocative clothes, Bethany never had a bad body and she wasn't ugly either, she was just badly groomed.
"Seriously, Bethany, I don't know how you convinced me to have this party at your house, if your father found out, you know I'm really scared of him." Bernice mused, as she helped her friend prepare a coffee cake.
"It's Halloween night, honey," replied Bethany, "it's our favorite holiday of the year. By the way...what did you dress up as? Don't tell me..."
"No, I'm not a piece of shit," replied Bernice sarcastically, "I'm a coffee bean, don't you remember me telling you that? But of course, you didn't pay attention to me since you were talking to that jerk Robert on the phone. I can't believe you like that jerk after how mean he was to you earlier this year, by the way, is he coming over?"
Bethany smiled letting out a slight laugh, as she poured the cake mix into the pan.
"Yeah, sure, I talked to him a while ago by text, he said he was on his way."
"I hope he leaves soon, I can't stand that jerk, I can't stand his dumb friend Gerald either." Bernice replied wrinkling her face.
"Relax, they said they were going to behave," Bethany asserted, "believe it or not, Robert is a gentleman when he puts his mind to it."
"Yeah, right." Replied Bernice sarcastically laughing. "Anyway, girlfriend, can I help you with anything else?"
"Yes, please bring out more beers, the party people must be running out of drinks by now. I'll put the cake in the oven and keep an eye out when it comes out."
"As the lady commands!" finished Bernice making a military gesture as a joke to her friend.
Bernice hurried with the beers. She grabbed a few and started dancing with her companions. She was having a good time, until someone knocked on the door.
"Bernice!" Bethany exclaimed. "Robert's here, come, come with me to open the door."
Bernice accompanied her friend reluctantly as she didn't want to see Robert or his friend, but Bethany was so taken with him, her best friend felt sorry for her to fall in love with such an idiot. She opened the door and they were greeted.
"You made it!" Bethany exclaimed excitedly. "And you didn't come in costume, either of you..."
"Hey fools, didn't Bethany tell you this is a costume party?" proffered Bernice petulantly.
"Sorry," Robert replied, "it's just that dressing up on Halloween seems silly to me."
"Yeah, it's really weird..." Gerald, Robert's friend, continued. Bernice rolled her eyes upward in reaction to the stupid things they had both just said.
"Never mind, guys, come on in. There's beer and later there will be a surprise for you, Robert." Bethany asserted, holding Robert's arm as she led him into the living room with the other guests.
"Great!" Robert exclaimed. "Hey, Bernice, what are you dressed up as, a piece of shit?"
"Ha, ha..." reacted Bernice annoyed in a sarcastic tone. "No, I'm a coffee bean."
"Well, what an ugly disguise. And you cutie, what are you dressed up as?" Robert asked turning to Bethany.
"I'm Sarah Sanderson from the movie Hocus Pocus, do you like it?"
"Yes, you look very pretty. It's amazing how much you've changed, you're no longer that weird ugly girl from the beginning of the year that I liked to tease."
"Thank you, Robert." Bethany replied sheepishly. "I've always wanted to be with you, you're the cutest guy in school. I'll give you your surprise in a little while." Finished Bethany whispering in Robert's ear, this made him get excited and imagine lustful things.
They started dancing and drinking like there was no tomorrow. Bethany stopped Robert for a moment, while she went to the kitchen to take the cake out of the oven. Bernice danced with her friends, as they told jokes and watched as her friend brought a piece of cake just to Robert.
Bethany refused to give it to the others, while Robert was the only one tasting the cake.
"Do you like it?" Bethany asked with a twinkle in her eye.
"It's very tasty. I don't like coffee, but this cake is delicious."
They continued dancing for a while longer until Bethany suddenly disappeared from the party. Bernice started looking around the kitchen for her, when suddenly, she heard some screaming in the living room. Robert was convulsing on the floor and his eyes rolled back, until he finally went limp.
Everyone was petrified when they realized that Robert was lifeless. They called 911, while Bernice searched for her friend. She went to her room, the light was on but no one was there.
On the bed was a sheet of paper that appeared to be a list. As she read it, Bernice was paralyzed with horror, for not only did she recognize her friend's handwriting, but in one of the things to do was written, "Kill Robert with coffee cake."
