The night was still and quiet yet aglow with bright city lights, the occasional barks of faraway dogs and constant chirps of crickets broke the silence of the cold night.
My stomach kept growling as I was really hungry and yearned for food so I walked down the street in a haste to meet up with the city's cafe as they stay open until 11pm. I had just an hour to get there and grab what I wanted before they closed and wouldn't want to attend to anyone.
On getting there, I rushed in and placed my order while my stomach kept embarrassing me with its noisy growls. While waiting for my order to be ready, I made myself comfortable in one of the corners while looking around the cafe. There was just a man there. He caught my attention by the way he sipped slowly on the drink in front of him, inhaling the hot steam the liquid released while he ran his fingers in an endless circle around the flowery vintage looking cup. I knew he was drinking coffee but I didn't know the flavor and yearned to know because I felt the inner peace this man was feeling by watching his reactions.
When my order was ready and brought to me, I politely asked the barista what kind of coffee the man was drinking and if I could have a cup for takeaway but she told me that was the last they brewed for the night and since they were gonna be closing in few minutes, they couldn't brew another. I let out a sigh but just as I was about to leave, the guy called me and handed me his own which he had bought to take home. I couldn't refuse it as I wanted to have a taste of this heavenly drink. I opened it immediately and took a gulp. He admired the way I devoured the drink and politely asked to take me on a coffee date to one of the finest coffee brewing shops in town and I accepted without hesitation. We exchanged contacts and we both went our different ways feeling good and I continued to sip on the coffee. When I got home that night I discovered my whole body had turned blue like the creatures in Avatar, just that I didn't have the fairy type of ears.
I thought it was because it was my first time tasting such a delectable drink so I didn't consider my skin reaction as anything serious as I was looking forward to having that coffee date with the generous young man I met at the cafe.
Another day had dawned as the sun poured its rays through my window waking me up to hope and new aspirations. My skin had gone back to normal and I let out a grin. When I picked up my phone, I had gotten a message from him and the date was fixed for the evening. I jumped out of bed super excited as it was gonna be my first coffee date ever. The evening rushed in and the sky was set ablaze with fire of the setting sun. I chose the perfect evening gown and a pair of stilettos to match because I wasn't gonna ruin this date. He came by and picked me up in his luxurious Mercedes Benz.
On arrival, the shop was brilliantly lit. There were tables outside the shop and each with an umbrella. "They sell the finest coffee in the world" he whispered to me as I walked majestically through the transparent glass that opened up for us the moment we got close to it. It was beautiful and an ideal place for employees and students to relieve stress and that was indeed obvious as a lot of young people fluttered around the place.
He went over to the counter and placed our order while I was shown a comfortable bulky wooden seat inside the shop to sit and wait. When he was done, he moved over to the next counter and made the payment. He looked so slender and cute, I watched his every unique step and I felt so lucky. He sat beside me after making the payment and gave me a smile, one that made me wish the evening wasn't gonna end.
Our coffee was finally ready, he had placed an order for cappuccino. The fresh hot coffee warmed my hands as I took up the cup to take my first sip. "An invigorating smoky taste huh?" He asked with curved lips when he saw me close my eyes after taking a sip. "I smiled and nodded, "this us the most refreshing thing I've ever had in my life" I muttered and he felt good to hear the compliment from me.
Few minutes later after taking more sips, my skin began to itch badly and again the thing that happened the previous night repeated itself and this time in public. I turned blue and all eyes were on me. "Are you okay?" He questioned with a worried look on his face but I just couldn't sit back to answer him. I pulled my stilettos and dashed out of the shop as all eyes were on me. I hid in a nearby bush to get rid of the color and when it got normal, I went back home feeling sad and that was when I realized that I had to take my coffee indoors if I didn't want to be embarrassed in front of people.
