Granville Wood: Where Every Walk is a Grave Matter!

in #hive-15288912 days ago

Another dull day as I took a walk through Granville Wood, which for the past few years, has offered woodland burials. Unfortunately, my visit was slightly spoilt by the fact that a portion of the wood is now off-limits to the public.

People have previously had access to all parts of the wood, but now that some areas are private, it has become a contentious issue with some of the villagers.

Despite some restrictions, a few footpaths remain accessible. The trails go through the trees. However, on this particular day, the weather had made the ground quite sludgy, which resulted in my trousers becoming splattered with mud. They were clean on today. Bad timing or what??

A lot more trees have fallen down since I last visited. I'd heard on the grapevine that a chap from the village had recently had a close shave from a falling tree. He ended up with a dislocated shoulder trying to avoid the tree. Even though it wasn't windy today, I kept my eyes and ears open as there are many old trees.

I think when you have bought a plot, you can come and sit, chill and perhaps make a fire. I think it makes the place look a bit messy, personally.

I try to do 10k steps a day. However, if you are new to walking, start by setting small goals, such as taking a short walk or explore a new trail on the weekends. Even though on this walk, I was surrounded by buried bodies, every step counts towards a healthier lifestyle!

I'm curious how part the woods became private property suddenly

It's someone's wood but we've always been allowed to walk through it, at the owner's descretion. The owner started a burial business with some woodland burial company and now selling plots to people who want to be either buried, or cremated there. Once purchased, their plots become private.

Oh, so it was private before and became more private.

Lol. Normally, even farmer's here have footpaths on their land, but there is a right of way law so the public can still use the footpaths. In this case, it was more of an agreement as everyone has used the woods for years. I think his business idea changed things a little.

The woods look very nice and beautiful at this moment. But time will probably change quite a bit. At night it would become rather gloomy and quiet.

My imagination would go into overdrive if I was there at night. 😬

Hahahaha. If I didn’t have a good torch with me, I would start running fast at the first sign of something weird.
