This tower is quite a landmark in Lisbon. It dates back to the 16th century and it was added to the UNESCO list of Heritage Sites in 1983. The location is by the shores of Tagus River. During the time of Discoveries, this was the place where the Portuguese explores would embark and disembark. The fortified tower is a symbol of Portugal's colonial and maritime power. In the same neighborhood you will find interesting places like the Jeronimos Monestary. Both are symbols of the age of the discoveries.
