The city of Xian, China became famous and known to the world when the Terracota Army was discovered in the 1970s. My reason to pay Xian a visit, was to see this army. But the city has lots of history and interesting places. The photo was taken in the Muslim Quarter. For a period of aprox 4000 years, Xian was the capital serving 11 Chinese dynasties. The Tang dynasti was one of these and the one who started trading wih Arabic countries. This is hos Islam came to Xian. Many of the merchants settled in Xian and married local women. The Muslim Quarter should not be missed. I stayed three days in Xian, but everday in the afternoon / early nights, time was spend here, tasting great street food. The mosques are worth a visit. What is unique about the architectural style, is the mix of Islamic and Chinese traditions.
