In the picture, the islet of Encalders (s'Illot d'Encalders in the language of the island of Ibiza) is an islet separated just a dozen meters off the coast of the main island. It is located in the north of Ibiza and in geological terms its separation from the main island is relatively recent. The origin of its name is not at all clear; while some believe that it comes from a proper name, others have the theory that the Latin word 'calderum' is the origin of it, this word refers to the holes or “pots” that are seen in the foreground and there are also on the islet. The most refuted linguists and geographers are advocates of the latter theory.
During the summer season, when the sea is calm, some outings cross the narrow pass that separates the islet from the coast.
