Living every day of my life as a fish farmer has been a part of me. Some days are stressful, and some days are amazing. But it's more of the joy I derive from taking passion out of it. And that’s something that has kept me going over time.
Last week there was no gas in the generator, so I had to fill up and continue with my work. I just called my brother and told him to get my card and then go and fill up the gas for me urgently. Then he brought to my notice immediately that it was on a Sunday and gas stations wouldn’t open.
Ooh. I guess that wasn't the first time it’s happened. Then I finally concluded that I think I have adapted to the ways of not being able to identify the days of the week. I have been living my life all day being the same.
That's just the life of a farmer, especially for being a starter or beginner in the industry. I can’t say maybe when they get to expand and then have some people do the job for them. There could be rest time for the chief executive officer by then. But right now I am the worker, the CEO, the labor, the marketer, the analyst, the sales manager, and everything in the business, so 💯 no time for rest or holiday.
Sometimes I wish I was just a casual worker and not even an entrepreneur. But the bitter truth is that there is always an advantage and disadvantage to almost everything. Living as a 9-5 worker and having a holiday on weekends is nice. Taking breaks and vacations for public holidays is also cool. But the stress and restlessness that comes from it is always overwhelming at times.
The merit of being an entrepreneur is the flexibility one gets from it. Though most times you get your hands on a job almost every day of the week without rest. But you can also get to take a vacation at any time you want.
The New Year!
I am sure I will be on the farm working on the first of next year. To me, it's just a change of date and like every other day too. There is no special wake-up for me, and no special treatment too.
I already have my schedule for the days ahead and it just happens to fall among them. The new year won't stop me from getting the necessary job done on that day and I am also resuming the days after it.
I wish I could also take some breaks for myself for upkeep and rest. But I won't be having that in a couple of days now. I have my rest time when I am done with the productions I have on hand. Then I can take a week's vacation from work to rest and have a nice time.
I also never pray to get sick in any way. Sickness is also one thing that gets me down and incapable of doing the necessary at the right time. Maybe I should call it a mandatory vacation.
That’s the way of a farmer and I am glad and so proud to be one.
This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in hive learners community for the Week 146 Edition 1 and the topic to be discussed is WHEN DOES YOUR HOLIDAY ENDS
