When we want to legalize anything at all, we will first consider the bad and good side of it. Is just like saying that we want to legalize drug trafficking, or drug abuse. No one wants to do that because of the damages it has done to the society where we live. Though we have our different opinions. Someone may still want gambling to be legalized. Reasons best known to him or her.
WHAT IS GAMBLING?
According to oxford dictionary, gambling is an activity characterised by a balance between winning and losing that is governed by a mixture of skill and chance, usually with money wagered on the outcome.
WHAT IS BETTING?
When I also checked out the dictionary this is what I saw- parties that a stake (usually money) will be paid by the loser to the winner (the winner being the one who correctly forecast the outcome of an event).
For this one is bet. You know that betting is taking from the word bet. So, betting is a continuous tense.
Now looking at the two of them with their definition, you will discover that people who are engaged in any of these don't have a guarantee of winning or back their money. Most of them come back losing and neglecting their responsibilities at home because they have lost the money.
I'm not in support of legalizing any of them. What are my reasons?
I want to use this example of a neighbor who use to be very good at gambling. I said use to because it got to a time when he needs to stop.
He was a police officer and at the end of every month, he moves straight to a gambling center and use all his salary for gambling. His wife and kids will be waiting for him at home only to see him in the night with nothing to give them for food and school fees. It continued for years and the family got tired of always living in dept when their father can afford everything they need. The wife went to his place for work and complain to their superior about the habit of her husband and how he don't give them anything at home because of gambling. I love what the superior did. He called the police officer and asked him if what his wife is saying is correct. He gave some excuses why he don't give them money at home. His superior called his wife and told her to send her account number. She did and from that month 80% of his salary started going to his wife account for the family up keep. As from that month he reduced his gambling habit because their was no money to waste anymore. Gradually he stopped and start using the little money remaining for good. Thanks for that woman. How can a man with family be so deep into gambling that? This is ridiculous. Any responsible person should not be seen doing that.
This is one of the reasons why I hate gambling or betting. They are all children of the same father. As long as you will take the money meant for something else in the family to do this and allow your family to suffer, then I don't see anything good in it.
As the topic for week 148: edition 3 suggest, Should Gambling/Betting be illegal? My response to it is yes. Let it be labeled at illegal. People should not be encouraged to do so. Use your money to buy any coin and store for the future. At least you are sure that in months or years to come, you will make lots of gain.
