Everyday is a blessing, so it should be viewed as a day to do good. We need to do good to those whom it is owing. If we find those deserving of good deeds and hold it back, I believe it is a sin. Instead, just do one act of good deeds.
In our World today, we have every reason to be good to people; the hardship people face is overwhelming. So if you can do good to people and help alleviate their suffering, God is pleased with such sacrifices. However, we see that people give gift or do acts of good just to be praised, give impression, show off or even make a public show of their good deeds. Some go to the extent of covering them on camera, we see those whose way of creating contents is to give "generously" to people but put it on camera for the World to see.
Recently I saw a lady who bought a massage machine for her own Mother, yet she put it on Facebook for the World to see. If I don't buy my Mother a massage machine when she has no husband, who will? So why put it for show? Who needs to commend me for blessing my Mum? Some things are just not necessary to blow for the World to know.
Most times, when I do anything good for anyone, I do not want to count or remember them because there is nothing we have that we did not receive. I have even received so much more than I have given, so why count?
But for the purpose of this post from @hivelearners, I would like to mention it. This time, I am not talking about monetary aspect, other acts of kindness, even helping someone to pick up a washed clothe blown off the rope line by harmattan is a good deed. Here's one I was happy I did recently.
CARING FOR SOMEONE BEREAVED
I was in Lagos for my cousin's wedding, only to check my office WhatsApp group and found that my colleague had lost her Father; just a few days to their Christmas celebration. This colleague had lost her Mother last year, am sure during another festive season - the Easter period. Now it's her Father again and during another festive period. I felt so concerned and sorry for her. I called her to encourage her, infact after calling her, I felt like joining her to weep. The pain of losing my father years ago came back. If you haven't lost a family member especially one so dear to you, you will never understand the plight of a bereaved soul.
Although I had fun at that wedding I attended, but each time I went to WhatsApp to chat with friends, when I check my office WhatsApp to be updated with recent happenings if any, my heart goes to that my colleague.
On the celebration day, that's Christmas day, I called her again. This time I had come back from my journey. I called to know if she was in town so I could visit her. But she was still in her mournful state in the village.
I told her why I called, I said : "I called to check up on you, now that your Dad is not there, how are you today, are you managing especially when others are celebrating?
She responded and said : "What can we do, the Lord has not left us. We are able to hold up today".
I will not lie to you, tears welled my eyes but her other response cheered me up. She said: "Thank you very much ma for checking on me again. This your kind words has lifted my spirit and the knowledge that I mean so much to some people who knows my feelings and would call to find out if am doing ok is enough for me. You will never cry over your own family member"
I said Amen and dropped the call. That day I was very happy. One of the reasons I was happy is because she rested her hope on God and was finding succour in him. I was also happy that I have said or done something amazing to someone that lifted her soul on that day. As I am writing this, I will make sure I still check on her later today to know if she is back from the village and also cheer her up; so she wouldn't enter another year, sad.
The doing of good is not all about money. Sometimes even when we give money, with the stress and problems of life we face everyday, people still needs words of consolation, words of encouragement, words of appreciation and words of assurance. Kind words go along way to even save a soul, just as money is for protection 😅
As the end of this year is here, I want to end the year with more good deeds to family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances. God's words says blessed is the one who gives..... . When we give, we become so blessed and our blessings from God will make us rich with no pain added to it.
This is my participation in @hivelearners task . How about you? What's your act of good deed performed recently? Share with us.
Thanks for stopping by.
Yours
