An Unforgettable Power Outage

I have experienced a lot of unpleasant power outages in my area. Sometimes, we go a whole day without light. But the worst of it was one particular time we went three whole days without light.

This incident happened precisely in 2020. Normally in the country I reside, power outage is almost normal and the power industry don't usually give warnings before cutting off supply. So this particular day, they took light and I stayed the whole night without power. I didn't enjoy my sleep that night because I was besieged by heat and mosquitoes.

The next morning, I woke up with hope the power would be restored in no time. But I was disappointed. Throughout the next day no power, not even a low voltage. I couldn't do a lot of important things I had gazetted to do like writing and publishing online, visiting the social media to interact with family and friends. Hell, I couldn't even watch movies throughout that day. Now I am a movie addict and going through that period without movies was like living through hell. But I survived anyway.

Now to the issue of food. Then I didn't have a gas cooker, only an electric stove, sometimes I made due with a charcoal stove. I didn't cook the meals I liked just to save energy. All my cooking during this period was done by the charcoal stove.

I felt like a winner when the power company finally had mercy on us and restored power. It was like the second coming of Christ. When the power came on there was a reverberating shout of joy and relief from many homes across the street. I was overjoyed myself. One of the first things I did when power came back on was to watch a favourite movie, then a football match and I also ate properly cooked and well prepared meals.

Business owners across the streets were overjoyed at the restoration of power finally. There is a friend of mine, who owns a barbing salon across the street where I live. I paid him a visit and he was lamenting to me the much he had spent to put gasoline in his generator to be able to carry on with his business. And the price of fuel was particularly high during this period.

After the power came on I quickly rushed to create my writing and publish online. I tried to forget how much I had missed because of the outage. But now I know better. One of the things I did was to acquire an effective power bank to use in case of outages. And the device has been serving me really well.

This particular power outage is one I would never forget as it left a lasting impression. And I hope the power industry in my country will be lenient enough not to let it happen again. I mean not to put power out that long, because intermittent outages is a common phenomenom in my area.

This is my participation in this week's prompt on the hive learners community. You can read more about it here

Thanks for reading. Have a blessed day.

N.B: While waiting to be verified for the hive learners community, I decided to go ahead and participate in this week's prompt anyway. I hope to fully participate in that of next week when I have been verified. Thanks for the understanding.

That is the bad side of relying on electricity. It is wise to have a good power bank as someone who Works online because power is not guaranteed. That part of using firewood to cook is what touched me. I have never trusted electric cookers and I don't think I have plans to get any for now. Power supply is too poor down here. If I say I am going to rely only on electric cookers it means I am going to go days without cooking

Thanks for reading my writeup. Indeed a power bank can come in handy in case of power failures. Though now I use both gas cooker and electric stove.
