Some time ago, I watched a short film. A girl after getting drunken at a party ends up sleeping with someone. After returning to her consciousness, she realized that she had been intimate with someone but did not know who he was.
She doubted her friend, at whose place the part was arranged. It induced deep remorse in her. She displayed her guilt in front of her boyfriend, who in return, gets angry blaming her for being unfaithful.
Later in the story it was revealed that she had slept with her own boyfriend, the one who had got angry at her listening to what had happened. Interestingly, he did not remember a single bit of the incident because he was under the influence of alcoholic drinks.
Both the lovers became intimate with each other’s consent- a consent that they had given in a drunken state. A state in which they were unable to think or decide between right and wrong. Not only they did the act but also didn’t remember, making it impossible for them to take the responsibility of the consequences.
Well, it was a fiction story but do we not know what kind of an evil alcohol is. Rendering them unconscious it takes people to perform act that they otherwise would never imagine of doing.
Sometimes, the negative consequences of this evil are deeply damaging to the individual consuming it; while at other times, innocent people are also affected.
In certain cases, the repercussions are so severe and irreversible that they turn a once happy life into a living nightmare. A few days ago, a similar incident happened in my city. An affluent lady, driving her Land cruiser in the drunken state, hit a man and his daughter and smashed them under the wheels of her vehicle. Both the members of the family lost their lives on the spot. What a horrible disaster for the poor family.....!
Don’t ask me about what happened to the lady driving the car. As she belonged to a wealthy family, she easily got relieved by the lame justice system 😤😠. It was only the poor family that suffered from the loss
Thankfully, I am raised in a religious family where drinking alcohol is never an option. As a result, I have never touched it, nor have I ever had the desire to.
In Islamic teachings, drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited and is listed among the greatest sins. The reasons are obvious. It brings us down from the level of human and drop us at the mercy of animalistic instincts.
The things that create difference between human and animal are conscience, consciousness and control. The ability to distinguish between right and wrong, the awareness about one’s actions, intentions and thoughts, and the control over our emotions are the attributes that an animal do not hold.
In a drunken state these attributes, that are bestowed only to humans, sway away from the person. As a result there remains no difference between other species and the offspring of Adam.
I am grateful to God for blessing me with a faith that provided clear guidance, helping me avo8d the evil that could lead me from a position of honour to an abyss of disgrace.
