I am a peace loving person, who does not want to fall into arguments or drama. This attitude of mine extends to shopping experience as well. Too much bargain or price negotiation is not my style. Moreover, I try avoiding the sellers whose behaviour appears to be rude and nasty. Perhaps, that’s the reason I have more good than bad experiences at shopping.
Nevertheless, there is a bad experience that I had as a young kid which doesn’t fade away from my mind. It makes me feel the lecherousness of beasts hidden behind the human faces. The existence of lust, inhumanity and disgrace.
I think I was a girl of seven or eight years at that time. My parents took me to a footwear shop for buying me a sandal. I sat on a stool in the shop and the shop keeper tried to put the chosen sandal in my foot in order to check the size.
While he was putting the sandal in my foot, I felt uncomfortable as I felt the touch of his hand on my private parts.
As a young girl who had no training about how to respond to a touch like that, I was in disarray about how to react.
At first, I thought it was an accidental touch and the man didn’t do it intentionally. Nevertheless, I soon realized it was not accidental as he touched again.
I wonder how my mom, standing beside me, couldn’t see him doing that abusive act. She had always been very careful about me keeping safe from the lust of guys. Perhaps I was wearing a long frock and that made him hide his inhuman act, or may be mom noticed it and I just don’t know.
Whatsoever, it was certainly the worst experience I have had with any trader. The experience taught me the lesson to be extra vigilant about our kids whenever we get to deal them with strangers. While buying anything in which a touch is meant to happen, it is better to let your kids wear the product yourself, rather than having the sellers do it.
If I have to tell about good shopping experience, there are a handful of them. Let me tell you about the one in which the seller facilitated me getting the desired ornament for my dress.
I had a particular design for the shirt's neck in my mind. I had already bought some laces for it. However, despite visiting several stalls I was unable to find the button or tassels that would complement the laces. Then I stopped on this particular stall.
I checked the suitability of various buttons and tassels putting them on the clothing. Nevertheless, nothing met my taste. The shopkeeper asked me to show him the stuff so he might help. He took the piece of cloth and laces from me and himself searched for the complementary item.
He showed me some that didn’t appeal me. Following me refusal, he said he had some fancier items but those were a little more expensive. I told him to show me the ones.
He showed me a fancy tassel that appealed me a lot. It felt like the exact thing I wanted. Nonetheless, when I placed it on the fabric, arranging the laces in the desired design, I realized it would not give the look I wanted.
I told the seller that I loved the tassel but I wanted a smaller one. Saying “no problem” he mentioned that he had a couple of more designs that he displayed to me. One of them was just the right fit for my design.
I told the seller that I loved the design but I want some colours of the laces in it. He replied it was not a big task to add those colours. Saying this he added an extended thread tassel to the primary one and showed to me.
Woohaaa! It was just perfect. Exactly the kind of thing I desired for. I asked him to prepare three for me.
I literally felt grateful for the way he spent his time guiding and assisting me in getting the desired item. I was thinking if he charged extra, I would pay him merrily.
This kind and helping attitude of him made me his permanent customer. Whenever I have fancy tassels or buttons to buy I prefer to go to him.
The experience taught me the power of doing ordinary things in an extraordinary way- the secret of success according to Jim Rohn. The extra efforts he puts to satisfy the needs of his customers makes him earn the trust of the customer and thus greater sales in the long run.
These were a couple of unforgettable experiences I have had with some traders. How about you.
