The way the rate of crime goes up every day, makes me wonder if the people commiting these crimes knows about the consequences. I believe there is a consequence for any wrong against the law and I know how important it is for peace and sanity in the area but in this part of the world where I come from, there is so much injustice. The guilty are discharged and acquitted while the innocent are being wasted in jail for things they know nothing about.
There are two things I think that when it's committed, I won't count it as a crime. The first is when a hungry person steals food. I know that taking what doesn't belong to you is wrong and I'm not disputing that but when a person is very hungry who may not have eaten for days and has no one to help out steal a bread or any edibles. I won't count that as a crime. The person was only hungry and needed to be alive. It is now the fault of those around that person who didn't bother to help.
I heard the case of a young teenager who lives with his grandma. They had no family members and no one ever looked out for them. The young boy does a lot of mania jobs to take care of himself and his grandmother. So, one day grandma fell really sick and he tried to take care of her to the best of his understanding. There was no money to take her to the hospital.
The little money the young boy had left with him was what he took to the chemist to buy her some drugs while purchasing the drug he knew there was no food for grandma to take the drugs. so, while leaving the shop, he grabbed a bread and ran away. Unfortunately for him, the lady started shouting thief! thief!
They chased him and gave him a jungle justice before anyone could help him. He was beaten to death.
To me, such a crime is not a crime, it's the fault of a failed system. I also heard of a young undergraduate who was arrested over fifteen years ago for stealing a fowl and has been in jail since then. Does that even make sense? How can someone spend such long time in jail for such a crime? All is also as a result of a failed system.
The other crime is any crime I wouldn't consider as a crime is any crime committed out of self defense. I think this should not be considered as a crime but also as a means of saving oneself. Imagine someone trying to choke you now and your hand grabs an iron rod, what is the next thing? You hit the person without even thinking about the outcome until you are free. So, whatever happens to that person, even death is not considered as a crime to me.
