My Social Media Is Not private

Things have really changed in recent times. The social media space is now so large and a lot of people do different things there.
Some people make their living from social media, these are the people that create content and stuff online. They earn a lot as their presence continue to grow. Some others just go there to view content and while away time. Some are just there to bully others based on jealousy.

Some of us live our lives on social media these days. When we eat we post it, when we use the restroom, we post it. Everything we own is known by our social media followers or friends. Both happy moments and sad moments are documented. They have no life outside social media.

The same way, there are various types of jobs that has various requirements based on what the job entails. Some of these jobs are offline while some others are online. All these jobs require different things to meet up with the standard.

Most of the jobs that require social media handles are for specific reasons which may not be known about by others, that is the reason employers request it just to know more about who ever they want to employ.

This is actually a funny one because not quite long, someone was telling me about a meme where an employer discovered that her new employee has been one of the people that always trolls her whenever she talks about her achievement on social media.
This is funny and I just don't want to imagine what that employee would do at the moment when she was discovered.

I also had a colleague who used to post a lot of erotic videos on his Whatsapp status, he lost his job because of that act because some parents who has his number complained to the management and the management discovered that he was actually doing that.

I think if I was an employer of labour, I would ask my employees to submit their social media handles. I think it is a good idea. It will only make me to know my employees more and have an idea of what they do online and be sure that it won't affect my business.

Infact, I would request it at the point of interview just to know more about the person I want to employ. Because it's in their social media that you would get to really know who people truly are. If I'm also the employee, I would be glad to submit my social media handles to my employers. Let them check what they need to check and employ me if I'm qualified.

I don't think it's an invasion of privacy in anyway. It's not as if I'm giving out my password. Social media is for everyone to see, so I don't think it's a big deal the only issue here is if they are asking for my password and I don't think I can give that out.

I think it will serve as a way to ensure the image of the organisation depending on what they are trying to look out for, so that the company won't employ someone that is standing against the principles they are trying to uphold.

It was wrong of that employee to troll her employer online because she was posting her achievements. I don't understand why someone working under an employer that treats them kindly will choose to be mean to them just for their personal pleasure.

I think it's just out of jealousy.
Some people are just like that.

Some go beyond what you stated. I have heard of an employer that sacked an employees because of they support rival political parties. You can't be sure why your employer is demanding for you social media handles. What if it is to steal away your right to free speech from you? To me, I sense ulterior motives in such demands.

If you say so, we can look at it from that angle but they are still the employer.
I would rather look for my job elsewhere.

In fact, if you are not giving out your password, there is no invasion of privacy, after all, your boss or other employees only have access to what you publish, and if you don't want anyone to know anything you published, just don't publish it lol, and then people won't know about your life.

That is true, you're very correct.
