When we hear peer pressure, it has always been linked to the negative. It has been like that basically because of the many negative influences that has been associated with it especially in the life of adolescent and youth.
I was telling my friends some time ago that one of our superior is being influenced by her friend who is always with her in her office, they laughed thinking it was just a joke but they later realized that I was right when the friend was posted to another location. Our superior's attitude started to change for the better. She stopped some of the behavior that wasn't hers and we could see her true character. Peer pressure is not about age or gender.
Anyone can be a victim of either negative peer pressure or be lucky to be positively influenced by their circle of friends. I want to believe that I have been blessed, not lucky to always have the right set of people around me per time. I've never been influenced negatively in my life and I just thank God for that. All the people He has put by my side in every season of my life had been the ones to help my journey.
I'm going to be discussing two instances where peer pressure was a blessing to me. I would say that joining Hive was as a result of a good pressure from my friend @vickoly I wanted to be lazy about it using family and all as an excuse but he would always encourage me. At a time I stopped but seeing him and @flourishandflora who also have all the excuses in the world doing it, gave me the courage to continue and Hive has been a blessing to me.
When I gained admission into the university, I was all about being on my own, no friends, and no socializing. But as time went on, I met my friends Mariam, Bukky, Sammy and Tosin. We became very close friends and three of us, I, Mariam and Bukky lived together like sisters. Sammy and Tosin were guys. We became very close in second semester hundred level.
By the time first semester results were pasted, I didn't do up to my expectations at all. I cried so much because I couldn't show it to my dad. My new friends all did way better than me and they encouraged me not to worry but be ready to work harder. I was so ready to study more and they made me do more than more.
The combination of these guys in my life was a blessing. They made me read as if my life depended on it. We would always meet everyday after classes or at night to discuss topics and everyone had to be prepared. I would make sure I listen very well in class to have a better understanding of each topic and then when we meet, I would contribute well
I couldn't be lazy because what would I be doing when my friends have gone out to study in the evening or around 5am. We would study previous years questions and I didn't know the advantage until we sat for second semester examinations. Most of the questions we studied and treated were in our exam questions and I was so glad I met people who made me study more.
We were friends through school and we are still in touch till date. I couldn't trade them for anything back then because they were my good pressure. In all, we know good and we also know evil. When you're being influenced to do evil, run away from it, and when it's a good thing, do it well and enjoy your results.
