They Are Nether Fresh Nor Healthy

While I was growing up, I remember that my dad has different large farmland on which he cultivated cassava, maize, melon, plantain and the likes. My dad went almost fully into farming after his retirement because at that time I and my siblings still had a long way to go and we were really young because he had us in his fifty's. We couldn't help much in the farm because of school, except when it's time to plant and harvest maize and melon. For other crops, my dad usually source the services of farmhands to help him out and he would pay them when their jobs were done.

I can say these were times where we were never hungry. Other farms were far from home but we also had about two different ones that were not far from home at all. We planted vegetables, cocoyam and potatoes. We could go there at anytime to get whatever we needed to cook. Everything was always fresh and we enjoyed ourselves with a lot of fruits.

It is true that technology has made farming easier which cannot be disputed in terms of machineries like tractor, irrigation equipment, harvesters and the likes which has aid farming and made most of the jobs on the farm easier. There were some things that we thought was impossible then which are now possible, like the modification of seed for better harvest and some that are resistant to pest and disease, including seeds that reach maturity faster than the normal seeds.

These and many more are all things that technology and science has made possible but all these are not without a price. For me, the price is a huge one and if we are not careful, it will grow worse.
It has been discovered that the foods produced these days from these modified seeds and the help of some fertilizer are less nutritional than they are supposed to be.

I bought some vegetables from the market some days ago, thinking I would use it the next day but behold my vegetable has turned black the next morning. I was amazed. I spoke to my mom about it and she told me that it's as a result of some type of the fertilizer that farmers use. I then began to wonder if such fertilizers can't cause harm to our bodies.

Most of the things we take into our bodies are preserved with a lot of chemicals that could cause diseases or affect our organs in the body. I saw a video recently of carrots being washed. Only God knows the content of the mixture in the water that is being used to wash the carrots. It turned from a dark colour to a bright orange colour. I screamed.

Nothing is as it used to be anymore. Farmers are adding two plus two. I also saw a video of some watermelons being injected by god knows what, by the time they cut it open, it was a deep pink colour. How do we determine what damage that can do to the body? These days, I get really scared of the fruits and vegetables out there and I really wish something can be done to correct this.

Technology is quite different from practices, we need to get this. Just imagine you refrigerate the vegetables you bought, it will still be fresh and that's technology 😂.

However, I get your perspective about the negative and unwholesome practices people engage in but that isn't technology advancement but human dubiousness and the more reason we need to differentiate these two.

Thanks for sharing your view with us.

Only God can help us and what we eat these days. Everything are getting easier but the results are telling on us.

It's really telling on us. May God help us.

The use given to technology is not exactly the one that corresponds to ethical and correct practices for human life and the environment, as humans have a lot of work to do and correct in that sense to prevent those barbarities from happening that you mention in your publication. I honestly do not think we can overcome the ambition for money and put aside genetic alterations and supplant the quantity due to the quality in crops ... but, surely as humans we will learn the lesson when it is too late, and the planet cannot save yourself (we are already very close to that).

We are just greedy for nothing.
This is really sad but I hope it wouldn't be too late before we realized.
