SUPER STORY: MY FAVORITE CHILDHOOD TV SERIES

in #hive-1538503 years ago
I grew up in a community where everyone knows everyone and you are practically raised from knowledge contribution of all possible adult member of the community. We were not attending deeper life but then, there were a lot of strict restrictions on how children can watch TV in the community.

You can't watch TV alone if no adult is with you because there's a generalized believe that being exposed to some contents and ideology on TV will impact your moral life negatively.

You'll think its one awesome TV, no!!. Its just black and white TV tuneable only to 3 stations namely NTA Ibadan, BCOS and galaxy TV. No DVD player to even enjoy home video. This really restricted me to only watching TV with adult hence, developing interest in programs they watch including my one and only Super story series.

SUPER STORY

As children, we were always excited to watch TV when it is time for super story. The moment you hear "Wale Adenuga production, presents Super story" followed by the theme song 🎵... This is super story.....🎵 we'll be set to watch that episode with every attention we've got.

Super story usually air on Thursday night on NTA Ibadan channel. Thursdays are always different because of that. Every family member comes home early on that day of the week including my dad so as not to miss our favorite TV series.

This is the only program that can make us put on our 'I better pass my neighbor' generator. This usually cause traffic in our house because neighbors from 5-10 houses away will come around to watch the series if there's no light.

That 1hr always feel special because you'll get to learn some real life lessons as the elders discuss each scenario among themselves and stylishly educate you as you watch along with them.

I usually finish my house chores(washing my uniform, washing plates, cooking and fetching water) in time on Thursdays. this is to ensure i do not miss a scene of each episode. Aside for the love of the series, I know my parents will be home early and I'll not want anything that will annoy them to beat me.

SETTING OF THE SERIES

Most of those series are tragic. Only God knows what we used to enjoy in them.
I think its the euphoria of knowing that no matter the level of suffering the main character goes through, there'll be light at the end of the tunnel.

Against all odds, Ideologies like this did help people like us to have some level of boastful achievements today.

The series usually run in seasons but each season with different story, title and characters

CHARACTERS

The series has no permanent characters but they usually feature popular Nigerian actors/actress in their prime.

I do remember the legendary Shola Shobowale featured in one of my favorite season

OH FATHER!, OH DAUGHTER!!

This is my most memorable season title.
It was all about a poor man who desperately needed a contract job and the only condition to get the job was for his wife to sleep with the rich job owner. The wife did it and the guy became rich through the job contract just for the guy to start misbehaving and having side cheeks.

I think Shola Shobowale acted the side cheek with the code name Toyin Tomato.
That season also featured the likes of Jide Kosoko and Bimbo Oshin.

I did have fun with super story despite it not being a typical series for children. It was a huge part of my childhood because that's basically what I was exposed to but looking back now, I can say I did enjoy it.

Thank you for reading.

Sort:

I also enjoyed watching superstore as it was my mom's favorite TV show then.

I guess I'm not alone then

Awwwwn! I never ever got the lyrics of the soundtrack correctly until I turned 19.😹😹🤣. Thank you for bringing back this memory.

Super story was one educative and interesting Tv show.
You did well taking us back to this episode.

Yeah.... Being educative was what made me like it

I can relate.

Wow! see me smiling while reading your contents😁 the nostalgic feeling when you can relates . Good memory indeed. I'm one of those children that used to go to another household to watch it whenever there's no light. They know me very well in that house😂 and their Comment is always 'jummy, jummy welcome to your Cinema'😂😂😂. Thank you so much for sharing this lovely memory. One of my favorite then was Onoye if that's the correct spelling.

Superstore was the Nigerian ttv novella back then by Mike Adenuga, others were comedy shows like Papa Ajasco. Unforgettable.

The theme song alone is a massive hit
