It is funny how we are all scared of the rain; should the rain be feared? I sometimes wonder, but the obvious is true of the rain. It ruins anything it can, ruins the traffic, ruins my make ups, ruins my dressing, and if there are some paper work around, it doesn't hesitate to ruin it as well.
The rain is basically like a two-edged sword, it does a lot of good, and as is known can do a lot of harm, you can think of how it without mercy destroy people's livelihood, homes, properties and more during a flood.
I've been caught in the rain numerous times, most often I rather wait for the rain to stop before embarking on my journey.
This Special Day
It was a very short distance between my destination and myself, but rain came in the way. It was a dilemma - should I wait or should I move? Just done from work and need to quickly head home, hungry and tired, but priorities has changed, as my focus now is on how to beat the rain, should I move or should wait? I asked myself again.
I tried something else, "the feminine privilege". It was a an area that do not allow public transportation arrangements, so, you can only find private vehicles within this area, so I tried what others have been doing, as I wasn't alone, I tried imploring on private vehicle owners for a lift, because it was the only obvious way out.
A little more context: I've not been alone all along, my workplace colleagues were with me, and had been imploring on private vehicle owners all along to assist, but no one ever stopped.
Do you know what they were doing wrong?
There crime was that they were all males, and fortunately (or unfortunately), most vehicles passing by were driven by males, so, no free lift for them.
They knowing how things work, persuaded me to try implore a vehicle owner or two, so I did, as the rain seem unrelenting. I only had to make two attempts, and a young man kindly accepted to give us a lift. I don't know if it was me, or it was his kindness, but I just wonder why my other colleagues have been unsuccessful. Does it mean that:
Men hate men? Lol! 🤣
Why thinking about this today, I probed further into my mental archive to even think the unthinkable:
The Prize of Helping Someone in the Rain
While it may seem like people hesitate to help others out in the rain, sometimes, it may be nicer if we put ourselves in their shoes. Carrying someone you don't know in your personal car could be risky in the first place, as only stopping to pick a person is enough time to lay and ambush.
Another thing here is inconvenience, people like comfort and that's the motivation for owning a private vehicle in the first place. So, expressing that single act of kindness by agreeing to assist is an inconvenience in itself. You can as well think about how the vehicle would be left wet and dirty by the end of the day.
But like everything else, assisting is a sacrifice that can be made, and sacrifices come with risk and inconveniences.
For the man that helped us out that rainy day, he paid the price, he took the inconveniences, and took the risk, in the end, he made us happy.
