Within these past few days, I’ve come across over half a dozen people fighting now, and with the way things are going and how the economy keeps worsening, I feel it’s only going to get worse. Imagine going to school or work and stumbling on two grown men trading blows by the side of the road, or seeing two women scratching and slapping the senses out of each other. It’s crazy. I even saw a man and a woman in a heated argument, they were both screaming at the top of their voices and they looked like they were ready to pounce on each other, but people were stopping them.
All this is just within the space of a few days and only within this my tiny slice of paradise. I wonder how it is every other day everywhere else. There are still places in the country where the situations are worse, I’m wondering how the people in such areas are managing to cope because, at this point, it’s just terrible.
Things are terrible, life for the average man is now stifling and there is just no way for him to cope with the ever-increasing demand. The cost of living keeps going up, and earnings are not increasing in any way. Yet, we’re expected to keep quiet about it and just go about our day like nothing is wrong. Responsibilities are too much and they weigh on the minds of people like a ton of bricks. It’s not easy at all.
People are keeping their feelings buried inside. No one is happy with the situation of things and the only person they can blame is the government. However, since they can’t go after the government, they go after the poor individuals that will be unlucky enough to get into an argument with them. This is why something that’s so minor that a simple ‘sorry’ would have solved would escalate into a boxing match with spectators who are only happy for a free show.
It’s just like everyone is looking for a place to channel their anger and frustration. They want to scream and lash out at people, they want to break things and destroy. They want to let out all this pent-up energy and frustration. However, doing that can be deadly and expensive. If you destroy stuff, you’d have to replace them. If you lash out and scream at people, they’ll most likely do the same to you. Or you’ll get a fist to the face for your efforts.
Honestly, I don’t think there is a solution for this. This is just a simple cycle but in a very negative way. There used to be a time when things were significantly better, and people used to fight a lot. Maybe because back then they didn’t have a lot of problems on hand. However, things began to toughen and living life became a hassle.
As a result, the fights reduced drastically because many of us just didn’t have the strength anymore. People were more interested in hustling for their daily 2k than getting into fights. You could go out of your way to annoy some people and they’d just ignore you. That was how bad it was. However, things are very much different now because any small thing could cause a fight!
And funny enough, the fight might not really be about whatever caused the quarrel. It would just be all the negative emotions bottled up inside and how they finally have an outlet. They’d never stop until every drop of the anger and frustration was gone from their body. Omo… I don’t know where we’re going at all. It’s as if we’re all on this train that’s speeding through the tracks but we have no idea where it’s headed to. It’s scary.
God help us.
