There are ways people get things done sometimes that you can’t help but wonder what exactly goes on in their minds. Like, are these people humans like you? Do they really have red blood flowing in their veins? Because from the look of things, they could just as easily be aliens or they may be descendants of dinosaurs.
But then, what can we do? Many times, we’re stuck with such people. We don’t like them, but we can’t really get rid of them due to life circumstances. So we simply just endure, moving from day to day. Hating it, but refusing to back down because that would give them the satisfaction of knowing that they beat you. So, you keep fighting.
I’m experiencing such annoying traits in my compound now. It seems that the people here are, for some reason, allergic to water. Okay, maybe that didn’t come out right. It’s just that whenever the pumping machine here gets faulty, fixing it is made into being such a big deal, even when what is required could be something as basic as a simple change of wires.
These guys would rather leave it to lie fallow, while they manage to fetch from the reserve tank until things get worse and the water pumping into the reserve tank gets spoilt as well and as such, there will be no water in the compound. But then, because they’re too lazy to go outside the compound to fetch water, they’ll suddenly realize that there’s been an issue all along and start scampering about like rats, trying to get it fixed in one day. Honestly, these guys are an annoying bunch.
This method that they’ve been using has shown them shege because the people who come to fix the machine, would take advantage of their urgency and bill them excessively. Many times, they even got scammed due to how hurried they were to get it fixed. But then, you’d think that they learned their lesson, right? Well, you’d be wrong! They still don’t learn. They live in blissful ignorance when a new fault develops and prefer to rely on the reserve tank. Until inevitably, the situation gets worse.
It has happening currently and for the first time, I’m watching it unfold. Although it’s not a major issue. The switch that controls the pumping machine itself seems to be faulty. A wire burnt and requires changing, this is something that can easily be fixed. Hell, even I can go up there and fix it. However, I’m not going to try that. I know these people. Once I start, then they’d expect me to fix every little thing that goes wrong in the compound. Abeg, I no dae do!
For now, these guys are relying on the reserve tank, blissfully ignoring the fact that the switch needs fixing. I also have a reserve tank of my own, so I know that I’m well covered. Eventually, things would get worse, and they’d remember that they need to get things fixed. When they’re ready, I’ll be here waiting for them. Until then, let’s just see how long things will last this time.
