Our exams are about to start and seeing as it’s the final semester of our polytechnic journey, it’s also the semester where we have the fewest number of courses to offer. With only six courses, our exams will be over in just a week. It would be less if we ended up writing our exams on Saturdays as well, because we usually write two papers on Saturdays; morning and evening. So, if we end up writing on Saturday, this exam could very well be over within a week.
However, when you consider the fact that this is the south-eastern part of Nigeria and the Monday sit-at-home is still very much active, it’s likely that we would not start the exams on Monday due to the fact that some students and teachers would be coming in from areas that are a bit far from the school. So, usually, starting off on Tuesday is usually the best bet in these situations.
So, I don’t know for sure how it will be exactly, the timetable has been released and we’re ready to write exams. However, my school is known to change their minds at the last minute. Hell, even at midnight, a memo can be released telling the students that the exams was postponed by one day. It happens.
However, the exams itself wasn’t the reason for this post. It’s more about myself and my coursemates. Since we have only six courses to offer, we’re expecting to go out with a bang. Lots of flash, colors, and rainbows. We plan to make it as spectacular as we possibly can. One way we can do that is through our dressing. We have a dress code that we’re planning for everyone in the department to follow through with.
On the first day, we’re to wear all-black, this is to honor our fallen students. In just the two years that we did HND together, we lost two students, both of them succumbed to illnesses. One was in the first semester of HND1 and the other was in the second semester. It was a trying time and it was extremely sad that they didn’t get to finish the journey with us, a journey that we all started together. It was painful indeed.
So, with the first day dedicated to our fallen friends, the rest of the exam days will be split. There are days when we’d wear senators, jeans and white polo, engineering reflector jackets, hoodies… and what have you. The plan is that every single day will be a spectacle and there will be so many reasons to take pictures because the making of the memories will start right at the very first paper.
Then, on the final day, we’ll all write our papers at the same time and also finish at the same time. Then, the proper sign-out will begin. From the look of things, I can see that it’s going to be a momentous couple of days. Although I don’t think I’ll be able to meet up with every single financial obligation.
Because if I were to follow this verbatim, I’d have to buy six new wears for the six different days that we’d write exams. Nah… Nigeria has not been so kind to me just yet. However, I’m not willing to lose out on the fun of this and I’m also willing to participate to the best that I can. So, I’ll do the little that I can. I’d definitely take part in the remembrance wears, I’ll also wear the senator, I might have to skip anything that has to do with jeans. Then, the reflector jackets are also a must for me. I’ll buy that, although I’m not planning to buy the helmet.
This is a day that once it’s gone, it’s not going to come back, so I’m going to do my best to make sure that I enjoy it. That is very important. So, I look forward to all the goodies that next week has to offer.
