Hello everyone, how are you doing today? Hope the week is going great for you? The rain has been coming down a bit hard in this my corner of the world, but somehow the weather is still hot. If rain falls in the morning everywhere will be cold, but that will only be till afternoon when the sun and the heat will descend upon us.
But I am getting carried away. My post for today will be inspired by the second topic that was chosen collectively by the house in the last Discord meeting, and that is my favorite technological advancement.
For me, it is the Internet. Where do I begin?
I believe that many of us have really been taking just how far technology has gone in this regard for granted, if not for not Covid-19 a lot of us would have remained in our blissful ignorance. It was during the pandemic that the world realized just how valuable an asset the internet has come to be. All we did then was simple browsing and research, the only people who made good money from the internet were network providers, blog owners, websites, Youtube, and the likes. At that time, if you wanted to go big, you needed to have a lot of money.
Even though there had been other avenues there online that were open to everyone, many of us did not know about it. As for me, the only way I could think of making money online back then was through monetization of your social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and the likes. But that is just so difficult to do because you have to grow your following and put out mostly video content.
That kind of life was not for everyone.
Then Covid hit, and the world was sent to a complete standstill. Jobs were shut down, money was no longer coming in but we still had to eat right? Bills still had to be paid. I still remember it was around this time Zoom became highly popular. This was when people realized that thanks to the internet you can meet even a hundred people scattered all over the world at the same time.
As the hunger beat us all so bad, the internet came to our rescue. For me, it is this blogging that kick-started the journey for me. And the rest, as they say, is history.
The importance of the internet in our day-to-day lives can never be underemphasized, just like electricity it is used in almost every sphere of life. We require it in our homes, schools, hospitals, banks, and even churches. The most remote parts of the world now have internet.
And the awesome thing about it all is that it keeps getting better each day. Every year, more and more companies go digital, simply because that is where the market is moving to. Even the currency is now digital, you can be making your money on the low and the government will have no clue.
Although we can’t deny the fact that it also has its bad sides to it, like how any device that has an internet connection is susceptible to getting hacked by external forces. Thanks to the Internet, blackmail is much easier, and so are other fraudulent activities and cybercrimes.
But the truth of the matter is if the internet should be shut down today, more than half of the world’s workforce will be out of a job. Especially now that most people go to the university and study courses that are based mostly on the internet like computer programming, website development, and the like, if we lose the internet are they the ones that will be getting regular jobs?
The internet has come to stay, and it will keep growing in strength. My only hope is that as the world gets to rely more and more heavily on it, there will be ways that we will all be protected from the dangers that lurk in links and sites.
So dear friends, this is my favorite technological advancement, and ever since its inception, it has been growing unceasingly. What do you think? Let me know in the comment section.
Thank you for reading, till we meet in the next post.
