This is a new month, and it’s not just any month, it’s also the month of April. Besides marking April Fool’s Day, the first day of this month also serves as the beginning of the end of the first quarter of the year. In about thirty days or thereabout, the first quarter will come to an end and we’d move on to the second quarter of the year.
At the start of the year, we all had loads of plans, we had goals of what we wanted to achieve. There were so many things that we wanted and craved to achieve this year. But so far, for one reason or the other, we’ve been able to accomplish only a few. One can argue that it’s still early in the year and there’s still time to chase your dreams. And then, one can argue that the reason accomplishing anything has been so difficult is because the economy had taken a detour none of us could have expected.
This year alone, we’ve seen the economy do the topsy-turvy dance in a way we had never before experienced. Within these few months, it has depreciated more times than it has in the past couple of years, and then it has also gone down. So, it’s been coming and going, driving both sellers and buyers crazy.
The cost of living also went through the roof. Plans were made at the start of the year, but then, the Nigerian government was no one’s mate. All the plans went to smoke as everyone became more concerned with surviving the day and buying food to eat. In the end, everyone got bent.
It’s been a crazy couple of years, I’m not gonna lie. And this is not just about the economy and finances of the country. It has also been crazy with regard to the weather, power, and security… so many things that could go wrong have gone wrong. But still, we’re all here, in one piece, looking forward to yet another productive month. This is because no matter how bad things got, we’ve not despaired.
If you’re reading this post, then it means that things were not all that bad. No matter how tough the months were, you managed to pull through. No matter how hard life was, you survived at all costs. Yeah, it may have been really difficult, you might have had a few hiccups along the way. But it didn’t kill you, it made you stronger. And more importantly, you survived! At this point, I doubt there’s anything that can put you down. I doubt that there’s a level the country would sink to that you won’t be able to rise above.
So, as we look forward to the rest of the year, one can only hope and pray that indeed things will get better for us. Hopefully, things will lighten up a bit and even if they don’t we’ll be able to rise higher to tackle the issues that come up for us. Nothing is easy, especially during this period. But the truth is despite how the country turns out, we still have a big say in how the rest of the year plays out for us. We still have to decide to keep fighting and refuse to be boggled down by issues that we can easily overcome.
It’s a beautiful year already. And I hope we all get to see it to its awesome end.
