We have once again been provided with another interesting topic to discuss in this week's hive learners edition.
Unfortunately, due to a lot of work on my side, I wasn't able to participate in the last week's edition which required that we discuss our role models.
However, this week's topic happens to be the reverse. Meaning that we are to consider ourselves the role models.
Well, I can't really say I have always thought of myself as an idol and someone worth emulating.
Although, on several occasions, I've heard people say that I possess a lot of good characteristics and qualities as a person and that they also wish to be like me.
But I also know within myself that I'm not a perfect guy, I have my very own flaws and some 'not really good' characteristics I'm still striving to correct.
However, I simply can't deny the good attributes I've been able to reflect. Most of them are probably as a result of the good upbringing I've received from my parents but I know that they're very much a part of me and I'll always remain proud of them.
Now, do these attributes make me worth emulating? Let's find out.
Gentility
All my life, I've been known to be a very gentle and peaceful person. I've never liked to get involved in conflicts or any form of violence. Therefore, resolving such conflicts has never really been a problem for me.
I believe that if you are acting in a rash, violent way, you are letting your negative emotions overwhelm you. I've always ever chosen to embrace my positive emotions and let them guide me through sensitive situations.
Most times, people tend to mistake being gentle for being weak but that is honestly not the case. Being gentle at all times enables me to channel my strength and control my impulses. That way I can always think before taking action in anger, and always consider the consequences.
Respectfulness
I'm someone who always respects the positions and opinions of others.
I've never believed in trying to force anyone to do something against their will.
I always consider treating anyone I encounter with the right amount of respect and courtesy, almost as if they are fragile, because I like to get my respect in return.
In most situations, I ask myself how I'd want to be treated, and make an effort to treat other people in the same way.
I believe that it's right to respect people who are different from us, even if we don't understand them that well. After all, the differences among us are what make life interesting.
Perseverance
I have never allowed failure to get the better of me. I'm someone who believes that I can achieve anything as long as I can put my mind into it and that's probably what I like the most about myself. There have come many challenges and difficult situations in my life where simply giving up would have been the only option, but I've always chosen to persevere, because I believe that the pleasure received from completing challenging tasks and projects is truly the greatest.
Now with these, can I truly say I'm worth emulating?
This post is my response to the @hive-learners weekly posting topics for week 31 edition 03 on the title "Reverse Role Model".
