Good day, amazing people of Hive Blockchain. Welcome back to my blog. It is another edition in the #hivelearners community. I am so delighted to be participating in this week's prompt topic, a little history.
There is no country without history; a lot of things happen in a country, both the good and the bad. No matter how bad that history is, we can’t change the fact that it has happened. Seeing these prompts, I have to sit and think because a lot of things have happened in our country; there is a whole lot of history. My country, Nigeria, is known as the giant of Africa. A lot of history has happened in my country; most of the history always makes me cry. The majority of the history always led to loss of life and people's properties. There is no history in my country that doesn’t involve loss of life or property. I am so happy that there is a lot of history in my country; each time I read it, I realise how strong my country is and how they were able to overcome each phase and still remain strong.
The major problem we are having in my country is our leaders. I have read a lot of history, and all of it is pointing to our leaders. From the few histories I have read, they are all bad. One fight, fight; it is high time we allow peace to reign in our country.
I will share a history that happened not too long ago in my country. This history has had a strong effect on my life; many people lost their lives, and it was mainly youth. On October 2022 the brutality by the sars unit was too much they were bridging the fundamental human right and violating human right which made youth to come out for a peaceful protest the youth were tried of the harassment by the sars more especially when the see a young boy with good car, well dress and have a tattoo the will start harassing the youth wearing good clothes in my country becomes a problem the youth were living in fear at a point the youth were tried of there abuse and the came out for a peaceful protest but the protest turns to a pool of blood many life were loss the police shoot thousands of harmless youth who were on a peaceful protest on the lekki tollgate. Freedom of expression is one of our fundamental human rights, but we came out to express it, and it turns to a pool of blood.
A peaceful protest turned out to be something else, right? Free speech is one of our fundamental human rights, but in the year 2020, the SARS violated the right for citizens to express themselves. They killed youth like their lives don’t matter. The end of SARS is one history that I will never forget. My cousin was a victim. I was at home when someone ran to us at home and said my brother was lying lifeless in Lekki Tollgate. Getting here and seeing my brother battling with his life is one thing I will never forget. The SARS pulled their triggers as if they were hunting for meat and not humans. They are killing the peaceful protest and turning it into something else. A lot of people were injured.
The protest affects a lot of things. Many families were broken; the government should make sure that the fundamental rights of the citizens are not violated. It is our right to protest. It is only through protest that the government will solve our problem fast. The government should always hear the voice of the citizens and not the other way around. They should always remember that without us, the citizens, they will not be there. We should always remember for us to be a great nation, we need to love ourselves.
