Technology has transformed the farming industry in numerous ways, bringing about both positive and negative effects. Automation and mechanization have reduced manual labor, enabling farmers to manage larger areas and increase productivity.
Technologies like GPS, drones, and satellite imaging enable farmers to collect data on soil conditions, crop health, and weather patterns, allowing for more precise decision-making.
Advanced irrigation systems, fertilizers, and pest management techniques have led to increased crop yields and better-quality produce.
While it's the opposite that we are seeing in this better quality produce, it is quantity. As much as all the machines are helping farmers and are making farming easy. The chemicals are causing more harm; you will hear something like it's organic by the time you eat it, the taste is something else. I bought some carrot to eat, and I won't lie, I didn't know that carrot has a bitter one and one that tastes like polluted water.
I remember as time passed, I used to help my grandma plant cassava, pepper, and different vegetables like water leaf, pumpkin, and some other native leaves. Those days if we want to preserve beans, we put dry pepper inside to preserve it. I watched a video where, in the north, one bean seller used sniper to spray on a piece of paper and put it inside the beans.
Imagine if you cook that kind of beans without cooking it properly, what will happen to your health? Many foods that we are eating currently, whether as a balanced diet or for survival, still have a chemical effect on our health. Even the fertilizer is no longer organic but chemical. We used animal dunes as fertilizer before, and it turned out well. If you pass where Basil leaves are been sold, you will know from the smell, but even inside the food this days, the smell is gone.
The increased use of technology in farming has led to environmental concerns, such as soil degradation, water pollution, and loss of biodiversity. Especially as we now build a greenhouse for farming pepper, cucumber, and okra, you know that any land that is used for building this greenhouse can't be used for build of a house except it undergoes another soil treatment that will take like some months or years before it can be used, that if they person did it well.
Overall, technology has the potential to transform the farming industry, increasing efficiency, productivity, and sustainability. However, it's essential to address the negative effects and ensure that the benefits of technology are equitably distributed among all stakeholders. I would have preferred the olden days kind farming with natural fertilizer with the use of modern farming machines.
Let the appropriate authority look into what these farmers use in farming, and provide adequate support for the farmer who is ready to take it to the olden days pattern with a little touch of modern equipment. If not very soon, unknown diseases from what we consume will begin to kill people.
