Scary!
It's simply scary to realize that some means of transportation are autonomous and are already among us! This seemed like something from a distant future, with robots, androids, and automatons that I never thought I would witness! But with artificial intelligence advancing... what else can we expect to see around here?
The Jetsons
A classic cartoon in Brazil, The Jetsons was the animation and the dream of my generation. This cartoon was broadcast on open TV for many years during the 90s, and I watched many episodes!
It consisted of a family living in a future of autonomous cars, flying vehicles, robots, and video calls! Things that at that time seemed extremely distant! Now, how scary it is to realize that these things are already around us!

What nostalgia to remember those times when we hoped that technology could make our world better and fairer! But it’s not quite like that.

The launch of autonomous cars was an impressive piece of news, and soon the upper classes were able to access this type of equipment to make their lives easier. Can you imagine being able to "call" your car to pick you up wherever you are?
Well, that is possible since the cars have a navigation system and also real-time connectivity.
GPS navigation still exists, but it is just one of the subsystems that indicate the route to the vehicle. In fact, it is capable of reading the environment, recognizing streets, buildings, people, and making decisions based on the information it extracts from its surroundings.
This is fantastic, but it doesn't mean they are immune to errors!
In 2018, the first fatal accident involving an autonomous car reportedly happened in the state of Arizona. In 2023, the blame was placed on the "driver" who was in the car but not supervising its operation.
In my opinion, this decision was ridiculous, as it was up to the car and its systems to decide how to act every second of the trip. The fact that someone was inside the car doesn't change the decisions made by its program.
I fear that this type of vehicle could become a target for hacker attacks.

In this movie, we see a series of Tesla cars destroyed on the highway. The scene draws attention because it shows the danger technology can pose when it comes to system invasions. Is any system secure enough, really?
I watched this movie and was shocked. I would love to believe that in the future it will be possible to trust machines, but for now, I remain skeptical. I think the responsibility lies with the manufacturer. In fact, we should ask ourselves about how the updates for these cars will be handled and for how long the manufacturers should be responsible for updating these navigation systems and providing warranties for consumers!

Simplesmente assustador você perceber que alguns meios de locomoção são autônomos e já estão entre nós! Isso parecia coisa de um futuro distante, de robôs, androides e autômatos que eu jamais cogitei presenciar! Mas se bem que com a inteligência artificial avançando... o que mais podemos ver por ai?

Um clássico dos desenhos animados aqui no Brasil, Os Jetsons foram a animação e o sonho da minha geração. Essa animação era exibida na TV aberta por muitos anos durante a década de 90, e eu presenciei muitos episódios!
Consistia em uma família que vivia em um futuro de carros autônomos, voadores, robôs e videochamadas! Coisas que naquele momento pareciam extremamente distantes! Pois veja que assustador é perceber que já estão ao nosso redor!

Que nostalgia relembrar esses tempos onde tínhamos esperança que a tecnologia poderia tornar nosso mundo melhor e mais justo! Mas não é bem assim.
Só falta voar!
O lançamento dos carros autônomos foi uma notícia impressionante, e logo as classes mais altas puderam acessar esse tipo de equipamento para tornar suas vidas mais fáceis. Já imaginou você poder "chamar" seu carro para te buscar onde quer que você esteja?
Pois bem isso é possível, já que os carros tem um sistema de navegação e também tem conectividade em tempo real.
A navegação por GPS ainda existe mas é apenas um dos subsistemas que indicam a rota para o veículo. Na verdade ele é capaz de ler o ambiente e reconhecer ruas, edifícios, pessoas, e tomar decisões com base no que ele consegue extrair de informação ao seu redor.
Isso é fantástico, mas não significa que eles sejam imunes ao erro!
Em 2018 teria acontecido o primeiro acidente fatal com carro autonomo, no estado do Arizona. Em 2023 a culpa foi dada ao "motorista" que estava no carro mas não estava supervisionando seu funcionamento.
Na minha opinião, essa decisão foi ridícula, uma vez que cabia ao carro e aos seus sistemas decidir sobre como agir em cada segundo da viagem. O fato de alguém estar dentro do carro não muda as decisões do seu programa.
Eu tenho receio que esse tipo de veículo possa ser alvo de ataque hacker.

Neste filme vemos que uma série de carros da empresa Tesla esta destruída na rodovia, a cena chama atenção pois mostra o perigo que a tecnologia pode ter quando se trata de invasões em sistemas. Nenhum sistema é seguro o suficiente, será?
Eu assisti esse filme e fiquei impactado. Gostaria muito de acreditar que num futuro seja possível ter fé na máquina, mas por enquanto continuo com o pé atrás. Acho que a responsabilidade é do fabricante sim. Inclusive, devemos nos perguntar sobre como serão as atualizações para esses carros, por quanto tempo tampo os fabricantes deverão se responsabilizar em atualizar esses sistemas de navegação e fornecer assim garantia para os consumidores!
