I am always fascinated by dogs. They exude a kind of love that humans must try to emulate. As I grow older, I realize why these lovely creatures are called "man's best friend." And rightly so! No offense to non-dog lovers, but if you haven't tried welcoming a dog into your life, you are missing out.
I have two dogs. One is a native Philippine-breed dog we named "Chuchay" and one Japanese Spitz named Dolly. They are a joy to the family! I love it when they wag their tail when we go home and when they sense that it is time to eat. I also believe they know when someone's in distress and not feeling well. They are natural empaths.
If God created me an animal, I'd like to be like these lovely canines. I admire their loyalty and love to whomever they consider as friend. They do not care about social classes, education status, the kind of home you live in, how messy you look - as long as he considers you a friend, a dog will shower you with affection! I want that kind of love.
Another trait I admire in dogs that I want to emulate is their tendency to protect what's important to them. Literally they will guard their home, their family, their treasures. And speaking of treasures, what else could be more important to them but to be surrounded by their family?
Humans like us are so obsessed with many things that we sometimes forget the people around us. But these dogs teach us that material things doesn't compare to the company of people we love and care. No time is a wasted time when you're with your loved ones.
But animals are animals. They are finite, lesser beings in terms of intellect and capacity to process emotions like humans. But are they really inferior to humans when it is us, humans, who can't love they way they do? If there's something wrong in their make-up, it's their short life. While we may have a dog for just a few years in our lifetime, to them, we are their lifetime. Other than that, I can say they are perfect! We don't deserve dogs.
I have watched DC's Superpets. The main characters are Superman's dog Krypto, and a hound named Ace (who will eventually be Batman's). The movie portrays how everything about Krypto revolves around his friend Superman. When Lois, Superman's girlfriend/fiancee entered the scene, he felt alone and neglected. Ace's story is different. He was often hurt, abandoned, and left to live on his own. Though he once wanted to turn his back against humanity (for the sake of story, of course), in the end he found love - and he was willing to lavish his love!

Obviously, I am a dog person. Now that I am married, my wife and I plans to adopt a dog because my dogs are with my parents. I miss them, and occasionaly I visit my pets. Though some may say that they're just animals, to me, they are family. They occupy a space in my heart.
