The Elusive Dream of Reliable Public Transportation in Lagos

in #hive-1538505 months ago

Hi everyone! Welcome to another edition of the #Hivelearners Weekly Featured Contents. Week 125:- Edition 02:-. With the theme "Just One Infrastructure."

This is quite an interesting topic to write about, I must say. Because this has got a way of affecting everyone in the country, and I really hope this gets to the government.

Tell us about the one infrastructure that is needed in your locality that has been ignored for way too long by the government.

Lagos State is well known for its population of people in the country of Nigeria. Lagos has over 20 million people, and due to this, it has always been hard for people to move around freely in most cases without getting in a holdup or something.

Although, I really can't deny the fact that the current governor has been trying his best so far for the people of the city, I personally believe that the government can do better.

If the government can be able to provide a reliable public transportation system, it would help reduce the stress and make life easier for citizens in the state.

The absence of a well-structured public transportation network has been a big problem many Lagosians seem to have been facing.

  1. Traffic: Lagos traffic jams are something you don't want to ever experience. Imagine having an appointment to meetup with, and then you get stuck in a hold for hours, which can be time-wasting in most cases.

  2. Road Safety: There has always been an issue for people with private vehicles and okadas (motorcycles). There's a sense of increase in accidents because everyone is trying to just get their way out of the traffic.

  3. Social Inequality: The lack of affordable transportation has also been a very frustrating thing for Lagosians and has had a way of affecting people with low-income residents, limiting their access to opportunities.

The best way I feel the government can address this issue is:

  1. Developing a Comprehensive Public Transportation Plan: Integrate buses, trains, and waterways to create an efficient network and make movement easier for citizens of the city.

  2. Invest in Infrastructure: Build bus lanes, train tracks, and terminals to make transportation easier.

  3. Encourage Public-Private Partnerships: Collaborate with private companies to fund and manage transportation services to help make life less stressful for workers in the city.

In conclusion

If there are positive changes in making reliable public transportation in Lagos for citizens, I believe that life would be far, far better for people of the city.

It will have a great impact on society at large if the government is able to prioritize this critical infrastructure to improve the quality of life, economic productivity, and environmental sustainability for all residents of the city.

I really hope the government hears the cry of the citizens of the state to help push the state forward. Because I believe strongly that if all these things are being prioritized by the government, we will have fewer issues and complaints in the city of Lagos.

Thank you for taking the time to go through my content, and I hope you've learned lots of lessons from the community's weekly prompt. This post is in response to the #Hivelearners weekly contest.

Sort:

As it is, there are waterway transportation put in place in inland areas by the government.
However,my concerns is t
Its affordability- it quite expensive compare to other options open to citizen.
Lagos State Govt is really pulling it best.

Yeah it's quite expensive and that's why we're pleading with the government to help reduce the cost.
