Despite me being broke, I have discovered that there are a few things that I simply cannot resist, even when my bank account is crying for mercy.
Pepsi: My Liquid Obsession
I have been hooked on this black carbonated drink for a long while now. It has become such an integral part of my life that my friends jokingly refer to me as the "Pepsi Ambassador." There was a time I wouldn't go a single day without taking a chilled and refreshing Pepsi.
I can still remember one time when my craving for cold Pepsi led me to walk miles in search of it. There was a complete power outage, and my vendor's refrigerator was unable to keep my precious Pepsi chilled.
Since I always want nothing less than ice-cold satisfaction, i walked several miles as though I am on a quest for the coldest Pepsi in town.
I finally found a store that had not been affected by the power outage, and they had Pepsi which had been chilling in an icebox. It was as if the gates of heaven had opened before me... Haha
As it stands you can use Pepsi to get me do so many things that I wouldn't do. I get hooked on the taste especially when it's ice cold and it's almost like cocaine for those who are addicted to the substance. I often feel they have the same experience as I do with this drink because the moment I gulped a few drop, I feel happy.
Toilet Rolls
I don't joke when I say I never use the bathroom without them. In my world, toilet rolls are more than mere hygiene essentials.
If it's not in handy, I'll rather hold the urge to urinate until I get home. You can always expect to find a trusty roll of tissue paper patiently waiting to rescue me from any sticky situation.
Data
When Airtel said, Data is life, they knew exactly what they were talking about. As for me, being broke doesn't stop me from buying data. You see, if I don't have data, my phone is automatically useless. My phone is like my second companion, always there to keep me connected and entertained.
No matter how financially tight things get, I can't wait when it comes to purchasing data. It's an essential lifeline to the digital world that I just can't live without.
Sanitary Pads
Another item that I can't compromise on, even when I'm broke, is sanitary pads. I simply can't do without them during menstrual period. I've head some say they switched to pices of clothes because they can't afford sanitary pads.
Sure it happens most times where you're so broke but for me , I opt for a cheaper brand. It's a must have for me because it's a matter of hygiene, comfort, and well-being.
Bathing Soap
Regardless of my financial situation, cleanliness is next to godliness, they say. I can't imagine bathing without soap is awkward to me and I don't want to think about it. If I don't use soap during bathing, I do not always feel clean. So even if I have to forego other beauty products like creams and the likes, I can't compromise on soap. My oily skin demand constant attention and cleansing and I have to give her what she needs.
Food - The's Essence of Life
I mean, who would dare try to cut back on that? Food is life, and for someone like me who needs it for the energy to do the ton of tasks that I created for myself to beat survival, it's non-negotiable.
Even if my wallet is feeling empty, I make adjustments and opt for what is available rather than what I may prefer. The enjoyment and sustenance that comes from tasty meals are simply too important to sacrifice, even when I'm broke.
So,the above are the things I can't go without, no matter how broke I may be. Whenever I'm broke my approach is to go with what's available at the moment, rather than what I prefer . Life has a way of reminding us of the essentials, and sometimes being broke helps us prioritize it.
After all, when life gets tough, my must have items can be the perfect ingredients to keep my spirits high and my smiles intact. Cheers to being broke, yet unapologetically content!
