We all know how volatile anger can be. It can come through for us at times and other times it can make things worse. Do you think anger can be a good tool for bringing change? Give reasons for your answers.

Anger. World wars have erupted due to this emotion, for one reason or the other. Anger, like any other emotion, isn't inherently bad, I think. It's what we direct the emotion at and how we process the emotion that determines if the end result of said emotion will be a positive or negative action.

Even an emotion as blatant as hate can be a force of good if the hate is directed at the right things. For example, someone can hate being lazy so much that they decide to do change their life for the better. In this case, the hatred of something served as a force for good.

However, an emotion like anger, like a fire, if left to its own whim and untamed, can grow wildly and bring out parts of ourselves that are dark, parts of ourselves we didn't even know existed.

So what's the solution. Completely toss that emotion into the void? Let the wind take it miles away and hope to God its never seen again? Well, that wouldn't be optimal either.

The optimal option is to possess it, then control it. And well. Like a warrior who pulls out his sword when it's needed and sheaths it in its scabbard when its task is done, we too must learn to exercise control over our emotions, lest they control us. There's an old Chinese saying that goes thus, "It's better to be a warrior in a garden than to be a gardener in a war."

Furthermore, the same sword that is used for slashing men on the battlefield can be used to slash wood to build a house or cut a rope to free a trapped animal . This suggests that the sword does not possess any inherent good or evil, but rather, it finds meaning in its application.

As far as practical examples of how anger can be directed positively go, here are a few. You can be angry because of your grade in the previous semester. So angry that you decide to study your ass off next semester and get better grades. You can be angry about the fact that you are morbidly obese and very unhealthy that you decide to take a few hundred steps in the evening and skip that next donut as a starting point to a healthier life. You can be angry at yourself for having no clear-cut goals that you decide to sit up straight and write down what you want to achieve.
