The Day I Lied

Hy everyone, I hope you are having a nice day. I want to share a brief experience I had which made me to lie and that was just the only option to get out of issues.

My Experience

It was on our usual clearance day during my national service (NYSC).

If you are currently serving or an ex corps member, you will understand what NYSC is about.

NYSC stands for national youth service corp, it is a mandatory service to be carried out by graduates of the Nigerian university as long as you are below 30 years of age.

Fast forward to what happened, it was time for our monthly clearance and I had no idea what monthly clearance was about so therefore I didn’t have one of the requirements which was a CDS card then but I have one now.

CDS stands for community development service, it is a group all corp members will be placed to carryout community development service and I belong to Disaster Management Group. They usually issue out card upon attendance.

During the time for clearance, I was asked my clearance form which I had on me, but when I was asked for the card which I couldn’t provide, I was rejected by a male staff. I wanted to ensure it is done so I could travel that same day.

I just had to hang around for the male staff to go for his Islamic prayers at the time after which I went in to speak with the female staff about my card, I lied to her that my CDS president was with my card but truly I never bought the card yet as at then in February.

She told me to call my CDS president so she could confirm the story, I quickly told a fellow colleague to give me his number, then when I call, and he shouldn’t pick the calls. Then immediately I called in her presence and the phone was ringing. I told her that the CDS president’s number was ringing and he wasn’t picking up.

She told me I am lying, my president just left and I confronted her that what will I gain by lying to her? Only that statement made her believe me.

That was when she truly believed me but actually it was a lie, I didn’t call the right person but finally I was permitted for clearance because that was the last day. Not quite long after the clearance, the male staff came in but I had already finished mine.
Sometimes telling lies could help save you from trouble that can never be traced. If I had told her I haven’t gotten a card yet, that would have increased the case.
